The DEFIANTS: Drive
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, Digital (2LP on Sept. 15)
The members of The DEFIANTS are all 3 current or former members of DANGER DANGER. This is their third album, where they continue to give the fans melodic hard rock with a 80s/90s sound. And it sounds really good to me. They have made a very good album.
A song like "19 Summertime" could be something for fans of BON JOVI and Bryan Adams. A song with big hit potential. And there's a few more songs here that makes me think of BON JOVI actually. It simply sounds very American I guess.
But of course there have to be a softer song, "Miracle", as well, which destroy the party a little.

ART NATION: Inception
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, Digital (LP on Sept. 15)

Swedish melodic hard rock band ART NATION might not be doing something unique. But they do what they do very good. They have the songs and the passion, and that has taken them pretty far.
ART NATION formed in 2014, and released their debut album, "Revolution", in 2015. After that everything went very fast for the band, as they became very popular. "Inception" is their first new album in 4 years. And that break was necessary, because now they are back stronger than ever. And they have even got original guitarist Christoffer Borg back.
If you want a really good melodic hard rock album (and of course you want that), then this is what you should get. Because this album is full of great songs.

SANTA OSCURIDAD: Ojos Asi
Santa Oscuridad - Digital Single
This hard rock/heavy metal group hailing from Houston, Texas, but sing in Spanish. The band features guitarists from HELSTAR and LA FIEBRE, and this song was actually written by Latin American pop artist Shakira. They have turned it into their own song though, and even invited a second vocalist, Xtina Pumarejo, for a duet.
To me this sounds like melodic metal with a Latino vibe. Heavy guitars and melodic vocals. Maybe not the best that I have ever heard, but far away from the worst at least.
Maybe they should record one of their own songs next time?

RÅTTANSON: Trebled Region EP
Råttanson - Digital EP
Swedish band RÅTTANSON gives us a mix of power pop, garage rock and good old rock n roll. It's catchy and melodic, and these 5 songs are very good. This is something that I really can recomend you to check out if you like good old rock.
The band started as a solo project, who released 2 LPs. It has now become a full band, and this is the first release with full line-up.
Why this band is unsigned is a mystery to me. But maybe they want it that way? They should fit perfect on a label like Beluga Records though.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: In Times New Roman
Matador Records - LP, CD, Digital
This is the 8th studio album from the American rock band QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE. Now I'm not a big fan, even though I have heard some of their stuff through the years, but this album seems to be a mixture of all they have done so far. Some stuff is good rock, while some is something more danceable and/or different to me. But at the same time they don't repeat themselves, but look forward instead and add new ingredients. So to describe the sound of this album is really not that easy for me. But I guess that if we shall put it in 1 genre, then it must be alternative rock, even though it's not the stuff from the 90s that I'm talking about.
Some of the songs I like best here are "Paper Machete" and "Emotion Sickness".

MOTHER MISERY: From Shadow To Ghost
Transubstans Records on June 30 - Digital Album
Swedish band MOTHER MISERY released their first record, "Grandiosity", in 2004. So they are hardly a new band. They have released 3 more albums and 2 EPs since then.
The music that these 4 men play is a catchy and melodic mix of hard rock and metal, which seems to have many different influences. They are easy to listen to and easy to like, as they have a really strong material here. Yet I can't remember anything afterwards, which is a little weird when they have made such a good album. Still worth listening to though. No doubt about that.

SERPENT OF OLD: Ensemble Under The Dark Sun
Transcending Obscurity Records on June 30 - CD, Digital
From Turkey comes a band who blend influences from various genres. It's mainly death/black metal that we get, even though there's also progressive parts, as well as dark and doomy elements. It's a complex album that could easily make you feel lost. Songs that are 7 and a half to 10 minutes long is nothing unusual here. Sometimes it can go fast, sometimes it's heavy. Well, I think you start to get an idea of what kind of an album this might be..
If you want it straight and simple, then this is definitely not for you. But if you want a musical adventure, then this could be your thing.

SERGEANT STEEL: Mister Sippi
Metalapolis Records on June 30 - CD
Austrian hard rockers SERGEANT STEEL is rocking really good. And they have done that since 2007. This is their fifth studio album.
The band has always worked with different influences - It's some Sunset Strip with GUNS N' ROSES and RATT, some stadium rock from the 80s like BON JOVI, CINDERELLA and WHITESNAKE, and then some AEROSMITH, RAINBOW and JUDAS PRIEST on top of that. And in recent years they have also added some influences of Sothern rock, like LYNYRD SKYNYRD and MOLLY HATCHET. But in the end we get some good old hard rocking as made for a Saturday night. So mainly really good stuff to drink some lemonade to.

RISE ABOVE: For Better For Worse
WTF Records on June 30 - MCD, Digital
RISE ABOVE has roots in the late 80s and 90s hardcore/punk rock scene in the Netherlands, having members from bands like DISABUSE and CRY OF TERROR. Their self released full-length debut, "All That Is Solid.....Melts Into Air", was released in 2016. Since then they have released 2 EPs, "Painkiller" in 2019 and "Forever" in 2020. And now they are getting ready to release a mini album with 10 short tracks.
This sounds old school, but at the same time there's a pinch of metal too (the heavy guitars). So I guess that fans of hardcore from both the 80s and the 90s could like this band. It sounds good enough for me anyway.

Mats Karlsson: Mood Elevator
MK Music/Sound Pollution on June 30 - CD, LP, Digital
This is the second solo album from Swedish guitarist/songwriter Mats Karlsson (220 VOLT, The SUMMIT). And it's a little softer than 220 VOLT, as this is more like rock, hard rock and AOR. There's many good songs here, so why they had to destroy it with a cover of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" is a mystery to me, as I don't really like that song. But I have no problem with the rest of the material.
The album features a whole gang of guest musicians and singers: Ferdy Doernberg - Hammond organ (Axel Rudi Pell), Björn Englen - Bass (Yngwie Malmsteen, QUIET RIOT, SOUL SIGN), Björn Höglund - Drums (EASY ACTION, The SUMMIT, HOVEN DROVEN), Lars Ericcson - Bass (The SUMMIT), Hanna Einebrant - Vocals (SHE REX, DISCO ARCADE), Mike Klemmé - Vocals (The SUMMIT, MARMALADE SOUL) and Ulf Karlsson - Keyboards. And then we also have additional backing vocals from Peter Hermansson, Robert Hellström and Göran Nyström.

ONSLAUGHT: Generation Antichrist
AFM Records - Digital Single
British thrash metal veterans ONSLAUGHT celebrated their 40-year anniversary last year, and re-released their 3 latest albums. This is the title track of the latest album, "Generation Antichrist", which was originally released in 2020. And what can I say about that then? Well, it's actually a true thrash metal attack in the old school way. Intense, but yet with a melody. Not bad at all.. I think that most fans of good old thrash could like this.

NIGHT LEGION: Fight Or Fall
Massacre Records on June 30 - CD, LP, Digital
NIGHT LEGION hailing from Australia, and released their self titled debut album in 2017. But it's not until now that they will release their second album.
And this album is filled with powerful heavy metal, but it also have melodies. The quality of the songs is really high. So you can simply expect a lot of anthems here.
If you don't like this, then I don't know what's wrong with you. But then you're obviously not a fan of traditional heavy metal anyway.

FROZEN LAND: Out Of The Dark
Massacre Records - CD, LP, Digital
It's 4 years since the last album from this Finnish power metal band. But now the wait is over.
FROZEN LAND play a very traditional kind of power metal, that should make people who started to listen to it in the 90s happy, even though the first song, "King's A Bitch", reminds me of HELLOWEEN around the "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" era. Everything sounds really good until we comes to the last 2 tracks, where they thought it was a good idea to combine Euro dance with metal - Not so funny, but not so serious either. They should have recorded 2 power metal songs instead of that crap. Because as I said, the rest is really good stuff.

AVULSED: Extraterrestrial Carnage
Xtreem Music on June 27 - MCD, 10" EP, Cassette, Digital
Spanish death metal veterans AVULSED has existed since the early 90s, and has released lots of stuff through the years. Now they will release a 2-track EP. It's heavy but not slow, and the growl is just as deep as usual. No modern elements here, but just old school death. Yes, I think old fans of the band will like this just as much as anything else with the band.
I might not always have liked their previous stuff that much, but this is for some reason much better.

SPRINTS: Adore Adore Adore
City Slang - Digital Single
SPRINTS is a Irish punk rock band. And they seems to be very popular in Ireland. And as far as I can understand they have not even released their first album yet.
"Adore Adore Adore" finds Karla Chubb reflecting on her experience as the frontperson of SPRINTS; a woman fronting a punk band being held to patriarchal standards of acceptability.
This song have a slower, more calm verse, while there's more action in the chorus. It's not bad at all, and could be worth a try.
I don't have much else to say though..

Avi Rosenfeld: Battle Of Rock
Avi Rosenfeld - Digital Album
"Battle Of Rock" is said to be a tribute to the best hard rock and metal bands of the 70s and 80s. But it's not a covers album, but rather songs that sounds like they would have been made during that era. On vocals we find the powerful voice of Andre Tulipano, and there's even a guest solo by Timo Tolkki (ex-STRATOVARIUS).
You might have read about Avi Rosenfeld here before. He is a guitarist from Israel who really like classic hard rock and heavy metal. And as far as I know, all his previous records has also been tributes to those old bands. So I don't see this as anything new from him, but rather the same old thing. It sounds really good as usual though, so I don't complain. You should give him a try.

MANIAK: Speed Metal Terrorist
Dawnbreed/De Nihil Records - MLP
Swedish band MANIAK gives us a fat dose of violent old school speed metal. Or rather blackened speed metal actually. The sound is raw and dirty, almost primitive. It's fast and intense. Yes, it sounds a lot like in the 80s, and you should absolutely check it out.
If I got it right, this is just the beginning for this young band. And what a beginning it is! It's not impossible that you will hear people talk about this underground band.

KRIGSSTIGEN: Vi Kan Bättre
Krigsstigen - MCD, Digital
KRIGSSTIGEN is a pretty fresh punk band from Stockholm, Sweden, formed as late as in January this year. And if I got it right, the group was formed by some members of WRONG BAND, who wanted to sing in Swedish instead of English. Now they have released their first 4-track EP by themselves. It was recorded by Mart Hällgren (DE LYCKLIGA KOMPISARNA, TOTAL EGON, KRYMPLINGS etc etc) and mixed by a Ronnie Björnström.
Their music is simple, catchy and melodic, with lyrics dealing with subjects such as injustices, arch-tubers and fabric materials. It's somewhere on the border between trallpunk and skate punk. It sounds really good anyway, and I really like what I hear, so I recomend you to check this out.

KINGS & BEARS: I Am A God
Kings & Bears - Digital Single
KINGS & BEARS is a groove rock trio from Lincolnshire, UK. It's said that they went for a LED ZEPPELIN "Kashmir" vibe for this new single. But it still has their stamp on it, so it doesn't really sound like that song. The verse is softer, while the chorus is more alive. A timeless rock song that is pretty good.

The JACK CADES: Something New
Beluga Records/Dangerhouse - LP
The JACK CADES was formed in late 2017 in Stratford-upon-Avon, UK. It's said that they mix clean 60s garage rock and RnB influences with surf and STONE ROSES-esque Brit pop. To me it sounds like power pop with that familiar 60s sound. It simply sounds just as it should, so I like this. Very catchy stuff. Another band that you really should check out.
There seems to be lots of these bands nowadays, and that's really nice. Because the few I have heard have mainly been really good.

INFERNAL TYRANT: Spring EP
Infernal Tyrant - Digital EP
"Winter EP" was the first of 4 EPs that will be released this year by the American 2-man project INFERNAL TYRANT. And now the second EP, "Spring EP", is here.
The last EP didn't impress me at all, and these 3 songs are honestly not much more interesting, even though they might not be totally useless.
The music is thrash metal, but not of the classic kind that I like, but rather something....different?

Alice Cooper: I'm Alice
earMUSIC - Digital Single

Alice Cooper has no plans to retire, but will release yet another album, "Road", on August 25. "I'm Alice" is the first single from the album, and it was co-written with Ryan Roxie (Alice Cooper), producer Bob Ezrin, Kee Marcello (EUROPE, EASY ACTION) and Anders Fästader. The idea was to catch the spirit of the old school Alice. And old it sounds, but at the same time not really as it used to. It works though, and it's a good song. The old man can still deliver. No doubt about that.

FORE: Skin
Blood Blast Distribution on June 23 - CD, Cassette, Digital
In the summer of 2020 some extreme metal musicians decided to form a punk rock band called FORE. Their first album, "Hombres", was released already in August the same year. Since then they have released 2 singles, and now their second album, "Skin", will be released.
The group is nowadays a power trio featuring Brian "The Canadian Glenn Hughes" Stephenson (UMBILICUS) on vocals and now handling bass duties, Jeramie Kling (INHUMAN CONDITION, VENOM INC) on drums, and Taylor Nordberg (INHUMAN CONDITION, DEICIDE) on guitar.
The music is melody-driven punk rock in the same style as BAD RELIGION and MILLENCOLIN, but possibly a little harder. They gives us 14 tracks in 29 minutes, and most of all those songs are really good stuff. So yes, you should absolutely check this out if you like melodic punk rock.

"Heksenat", the new standalone single by the Danish black metal band LOTAN, is a song that marks the fight for freedom from religious of cultural tyranny. It's a intense and extreme song, but yet with some kind of melody. Pretty good stuff actually, and not much else to say.

PERRACIDE: Underdog
Emanzipation Productions on June 23 - CD, LP, Digital
Swedish drummer Perra Karlsson (NOMINON, BENEDICTION, DESTRÖYER 666, NASUM, ANGELBLAST etc etc) goes solo. But that doesn't mean that he has done everything by himself here. No, he called an army of friends, who wanted to play on his record. Among these people are Marc Grewe (MORGOTH, INSIDIOUS DISEASE), Hellbutcher (NIFELHEIM), John Zwetsloot (DISSECTION, CARDINAL SIN), Anders Jacobsson (NASUM, NECRONY, AXIS OF DESPAIR), Dave Hunt (BENEDICTION, ANAAL NATHRAKH), Jörgen Sandström (GRAVE, ENTOMBED, TORTURE DIVISION), Simon Wizén (VALKYRJA, DIE HARD), K.K. Warslut (DESTRÖYER 666, BESTIAL WARLUST) and Gord Olson (DARKENED).
5 of these 14 songs are new and original songs, while the rest is Perra's own favorite tracks from the myriad of acts he has been playing with through the years. That and the use of different people on each song gives the album variation, and many different kinds of death metal. But there's a couple of songs here that are more like black metal instead. It's mainly old school though, and mostly in the dirtier league. I think that most fans of death metal will like this album.

MIDNITE CITY: In At The Deep End
Pride & Joy Music on June 23 - CD
They want to call this British band's music hair metal, but to me it sounds more like melodic hard rock that makes you feel good and want to party. Like something from the 80s. We get party rock anthems, melodic rock and power ballads. And this band can handle it all. This album is simply full of great songs for the summer, so of course it's not something you want to miss.
The album was mixed by Chris Laney (EUROPE, CRASHDÏET, CRAZY LIXX).

HEART LINE: Rock 'N Roll Queen

French AOR/melodic rock band HEART LINE released their debut album in November 2021. Now their second album will be released. And what can I say? This is just as good as anything else in this genre. Which means that they have several good songs here. The touch of the 80s is also there of course. Fans of AOR/melodic rock should be very happy to hear this album.
Is there anything at all to complain about then? Actually no.

FATAL VISION: Twice
Pride & Joy Music on June 23 - CD
I don't know if it is because I have heard this album so many times now, or whatever it could be, but both vocals and the songs sounds very familiar somehow. Like some other band that I have reviewed during the last months. I can of course not remember what band that would be though.
But anyway.. This is the second album from this Canadian melodic rock band. Their key influences are SURVIVOR, BAD ENGLISH, LOVERBOY, NIGHT RANGER and REO SPEEDWAGON. But on this album you can also hear inluences from BON JOVI, ASIA and Alice Cooper for example.
Well, they are doing a really good job, and have lots of great songs here. But 4 slow songs is really not o.k.! Who thought that was a good idea? And there might be 1 or 2 more songs that doesn't impress me. But it's still an album worth checking out for those other songs.

IRON SAVIOR: Firestar
AFM Records - Digital Single
German power metal band IRON SAVIOR has released a new single. The song is the title track of their new album, "Firestar", which will be released on October 6. And this is said to be one of their fastest songs. And fast it goes. But not extremely fast. There's also room for melody. This is simply a true power metal anthem, which makes me interested in more of their material. Check out!

PYRAMAZE: Bloodlines
AFM Records on June 23 - CD, LP
PYRAMAZE is an international band who are said to play progressive power metal. Among the members are Danish producer Jacob Hansen on guitar. The band has existed for more than 20 years, and also have members from Norway and USA. This album have guest apperances from people like Andrew Kingsley (UNLEASH THE ARCHERS), Olof Mörck (AMARANTHE) and Tim Hansen (son of HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY guitarist Kai Hansen).
The title track of this album is actually just an instrumental intro - Mistake 1. What comes after that sounds more like modern, melodic metal to me - Mistake 2. If it wasn't for the guitars, this could just as well have been pop - Mistake 3. This is simply not so metal to me. But even though I might not be impressed, they seems to be very good at what they are doing. And it would be bad if they were not after more than 20 years as a band.

Israeli melodic death metallers STRUCTURAL are definitely not any amateurs. They are very good musicians, and are sometimes almost progressive and technical. They seems to know exactly how to blend the brutal with the melodic. And they also succeed to make good songs. So they are simply very good at what they are doing, and I recomend you to check them out.
The band formed in 2015, and their music have influences from bands like LAMB OF GOD, NEVERMORE and ARCH ENEMY, along with more modern influences such as OBSCURA and PERIPHERY. TYRANTS BLOOD: Into The Kingdom Of Graves (re-issue)

Canadian band TYRANTS BLOOD features members who have played with INFERNAL MAJESTY and BLASPHEMY. They has released 3 full-length albums and some split releases and EPs. "Into The Kingdom Of Graves" is their third album, originally released in 2013.
The music is a brutal cocktail of death, black and thrash metal. Nothing for those who want cheerful tones and happy melodies. This is fast, brutal and aggressive, almost chaotic. But somehow they succeed to make something that sounds like a song, so even though it's close to being pure noise, it isn't.
If you want something fast and extreme, then this might be something for you.

FORGED IN BLACK: Lightning In The Ashes
Fighter Records on June 20 - CD
FORGED IN BLACK is a heavy metal band from the UK. They are not afraid to blend in elements of power, thrash, doom and even progressive metal as well. It's very powerful, and it's not impossible that fans of IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST could like this. But I guess that fans of something like QUEENSRŸCHE or CANDLEMASS could find something that they like here too.
The 10 songs on this album are absolutely o.k., even though I have heard stronger material in my days. So if you expect songs that are as strong as something from the bands I mentioned earlier, then you might actually be a little dissapointed. This is just good heavy metal, but not much else.

LUST was founded in Madrid, Spain in 2019 by some members of the local underground scene. "Invictvs" is their first album. And even though it',s said to be hardcore that they play, it's sometimes so extreme that it almost sounds like death metal instead. The vocals is absoultely not any growl though, but typical hardcore screaming. There's no "gang choirs" though, which is very usual in hardcore.
If you like it fast and heavy, and have nothing against some metal in your hardcore, then this can be worth a try.
RANCID: Tomorrow Never Comes

"Tomorrow Never Comes" is American punk rock veterans RANCID's 10th studio album. They gives us as much as 16 tracks this time. But the songs are no longer than a minute to 2 and a half minutes, so that's hardly a problem, as the songs are good as usual. So this should not dissapoint old fans. Unless you like their ska elements then. Because this album is strangely free from that. This is in other words a pure punk rock album and nothing else, but it's just as catchy as it use to be.

This time Edman partnered with producer/songwriter/guitarist Tommy Denander to make a classic sounding AOR album that harkens back to the glory days of the genre. And with that they have succeeded. ST. VALENTINE: St. Valentine
20th Century Music/Vanity Music Group
It looks like ST. VALENTINE was pretty hot in the Sunset Strip scene in the second half of the 80s. They had the look and the stageshow, but also the songs. They made a demo, with both Jeff Scott Soto and Mark Slaughter on background vocals, before they signed to Chrysalis Records. But unfortunately the scene changed, and the band's dreams were shattered. So their debut album was never released.
Times have changed since then, and melodic street hard rock from Sunset Strip is o.k. again. So now the album have finally been released. And as an extra bonus, we also get some live tracks, that I guess wasn't there from the beginning?
With this album they get the chance to prove to us all how great they once were. They really had the songs! This is a brilliant album. It's catchy and melodic without being soft and silly.
SAMMATH: Grebbeberg
Hammerheart Records on June 16 - CD, LP, Cassette
Well, this black metal band is hardly for everyone. It reminds me of the more extreme and chaotic crust punk bands actually, but more metal and evil vocals then. This is in other words very intense stuff, and it can easily give you a bad headache. Sometimes it's just total chaos. But if you like a band called EXTREME NOISE TERROR (and believe me, they live up to that name), then you might like this too. A other way to describe this is to call it a tight war machine.
SAMMATH was formed by the end of 1993, when Jan Kruitwagen had moved from Australia back to The Netherlands. They released a demo in 1996, and their first album in 1999. "Grebbeberg" is their 7th album, which tells the story of Kruitwagen's great-uncle, who perished in the forgotten battle of the Grebbeberg in 1940.

MOTORPSYCHO: Yay!
Stickman Records/Det Nordenfjeldske Grammofonselskab on June 16 - LP, CD
Norwegian band MOTORPSYCHO continue to be productive. Their last album, "Ancient Astronauts", was released in August 2022, and now a new album is here already.
This latest record is a pretty soft and laidback story. Mainly acoustic and almost a pop album actually. Instead of thinking more is more, they are thinking less is less for a change. There's not many long adventures here, but mainly songs of normal length (approximately 3-5 minutes). 1 track is 7:47 though. But 1 long track is o.k., as long as it's not much longer than that anyway. And now it also happens to be one of the better songs here.
It sounds more old than new, which as far as I can understand is nothing unusual when it comes to this band.

ALTAR OF OBLIVION: Burning Memories
From The Vaults on June 16 - MLP, Digital
The origins of ALTAR OF OBLIVION can be traced back to 2003, when 2 men formed a duo called SUMMONING SICKNESS. Around 3 years later the project morphed into ALTAR OF OBLIVION. They got 2 new members and became a complete band. They have so far released several demos and EPs, as well as a live album and 3 full-length albums.
This 5-track EP was recorded in 2016, just after the completion of the band's third full-length. And now we finally get the chance to hear these songs.
The music that this band from Aalborg, Denmark play is epic doom metal for fans of CANDLEMASS, SOLITUDE AETERNUS and SOLSTICE (UK), even though this band play a little faster than them. The title track for example, sounds more like heavy metal to me. Good stuff anyway. No doubt about that.
The band plan to release a new album in 2024. That can be interesting to hear.

TRASHCAN DANCE: Go-Go Dancer
Sleaszy Rider Records - Digital Single
Glam punks TRASHCAN DANCE will release a new album, "Killing Moon", this summer (I have no exact release date), and this is a taste of that. It's said that they have moved more towards good old street rock, but has not lost their horror vibes. They use much keyboard in this song, and it has both a punk vibe and darkness. A little odd song somehow, but it's not bad anyway.

BURNING LEGION: I Am Domination
Burning Legion - Digital Single
This is the first single from this American metal trio. BURNING LEGION formed in 2022, and features members from California and Connecticut. They are currently working on their debut album, "En Sabah Nur", which they plan to release in late summer/early fall sometime. Influences comes from all kinds of different genres and sub-genres of metal, so they are not exactly easy to place in just 1 genre (and that's why you take the easy way and just call it metal). That they are heavy and aggressive is obvious though. A o.k. song.

EMISSARY: The Crystal Witch
Emissary - Digital Single
EMISSARY hailing from Medford, Oregon, USA. They were active in the early 90s, but parted ways in 1996. 25 years later they reunited, and released their first full-length album, "The Wretched Masquerade", in 2022.
Now a new single is here. And what can I say about this then? It's a powerful heavy metal song, but with melodic vocals. And it',s actually a little hard to describe this song, but it sounds good though. Give it a try.

FINNEGAN'S HELL: Keep 'em Comin'
Wild Kingdom - Digital Single

Swedish band FINNEGAN'S HELL are just as thirsty as they always are, and tell the bartender to "Keep 'em Comin'". But this time they have done something different. It's more reggae than the usual Celtic punk rock. Which probably makes it the world's first reggae drinking song. It sounds good though, so I have nothing to complain about.
What will they do next then?

CHILDREN OF THE SÜN: Come With Us To The Sun
The Sign Records - Digital Single
Swedish retro rock group CHILDREN OF THE SÜN returns with the stand alone single "Come With Us To The Sun". It's classic rock from the 70s with harmonies. I really like this song! It makes me feel a little better for a while. Not really sure why though. But you should really check out this song. And if you like it, then also check out their previous material.

The ARCANE ORDER: Distortions From Cosmogony
Black Lion Records - 2LP, CD, Digital
This is the 4th album from this Danish extreme metallers, where they presents some new members: Kim Song Sternkopf (MØL) on vocals and Anders Frodo S. Mikkelsen on bass. On this record they balance the extreme with the grandiose, technical and melodic, while telling the story of mankind's eternal existential conflict between autonomy and submission.
The ARCANE ORDER blend death, black, technical, classic and melodic metal to something epic and brutal. It goes fast and it's violent. It's hardly a pleasant storytime for children we're talking about here. But I guess you have figured that out already? This is rather something for people who want it extreme without getting noise.

SWEET & LYNCH: Heart & Sacrifice
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, Digital (2LP on Aug. 4)
The collaboration between Michael Sweet (STRYPER, ICONIC) and George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, The END MACINE, ex-DOKKEN) is back with a third album. Alessandro Del Vecchio, who co-produced this release with Michael Sweet, plays bass on the album, while Jelly Cardarelli (LALU) plays drums.
This is just as great as their previous albums, so there's really nothing to complain about. You get the finest kind of hard rock, and everything is very professionally done. It's melodic, but yet powerful. Simply an album that you just have to get.

SCREAMACHINE: Church Of The Scream
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, Digital
This is the second full-length album from this Italian heavy metal band. And if you prefer the sound of the 80s, and bands like JUDAS PRIEST, METALLICA, SAVATAGE and ACCEPT, then this could be of interest for you. They add a modern production though, but it mainly sounds old school and really good.
SCREAMACHINE have once again made a collection of great songs. It's powerful without losing the melody. Classic heavy metal in a modern leather jacket you could say.

Neal Schon: Journey Through Time
Frontiers Music Srl - 3CD/DVD, Blu-ray, Digital
This concert was recorded on February 9, 2018 at The Independent in San Francisco, CA. Neal Schon (JOURNEY, SANTANA) were joined on stage by Gregg Rolie (JOURNEY, SANTANA) on keybards/vocals, Deen Castronovo (JOURNEY) on vocals/drums, Marco Mendoza (THIN LIZZY, BLACK STAR RIDERS, WHITESNAKE etc) on bass, and John Varn on keyboards/vocals.
The band performed to a sold out crowd for a benefit show to raise money for victims of the fires that had ravaged the North Bay area of the San Francisco region in October 2017. And they played songs spanning JOURNEY's entire catalog, largely focusing on the band's 70s repertoire, including the first 3 albums: "Journey", "Look Into The Future" and "Next".
So, if you think that you want 2 hours and 41 minutes of old JOURNEY songs, then this is definitely something for you. And I don't think I have to say much more than that, as you probably know already if you like that band or not.
I have always seen JOURNEY as a pure AOR band. But there's actually pretty much blues on this recording. Now I would not call myself a big fan, so I might have missed something there. It could also be that every track here is not a JOURNEY song (there's 1 by SANTANA for example).
Anyway, there's both good and less interesting stuff here. The playing time is way too long for me though, so I won't listen that much to this in the future.

MICHAEL THOMPSON BAND: The Love Goes On
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, Digital
"The Love Goes On" sees the return of original vocalist Moon Calhoun, who sang on the band's debut album. And if you like AOR, then you will get lots of it here, as this album last for almost an hour. But luckily it's not better or worse than any other artist in this genre. The quality is actually pretty high, and should satisfy most fans of more melodic rock. So why not give this a try?

HEAVEN'S EDGE: Get It Right
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, Digital (LP on Aug. 4)
This seems to be the first official release since 1998 for these Philadelphia hard rockers.
The band formed in 1987, and released their self titled debut album in 1990. In 1993 they split up. But in 1998 their second album, "Some Other Place, Some Other Time", was released, which included some previously unreleased tracks. It wasn't until 2013 that they finally reunited at Firefest in Nottingham, UK.
"Get It Right" is a melodic hard rock album. Now I don't think that I have heard any of their old material, but this album has lots of good songs, and is absolutely worth checking out. I don't have much else to say though..

CIRCUS OF ROCK: Lost Behind The Mask
Frontiers Music Srl - CD, Digital
CIRCUS OF ROCK is a massive musical project, masterminded by drummer Mirka Rantanen (KING COMPANY). This is the second album, and just like the debut it features various great singers. This time we can hear members from bands like LORDI, PINK CREAM 69, URIAH HEEP, GIRISH AND THE CHRONICLES, SONS OF APOLLO, RING OF FIRE, and more..
"Lost Behind The Mask" is a melodic hard rock album of the higher quality. They deliver one good song after the other. And the use of different singers (not just male, but also female) gives it some extra variation, which is good when there's as much as 13 tracks (14 on the digital version), and a playing time of almost an hour.
You really have to check this out.

The RODS: Live At Rose Hall
The Rods - Digital Album
The only albums that I have with this American heavy metal band is "Wild Dogs" and "Live". But they have of course done much more than that.
The RODS formed in 1980 as a trio, and released a few albums and played live. But in 1986 they split up. Since 2008 they have been back again, and they have released 2 albums since then. If I got it right, the line-up of today features original members David "Rock" Feinstein (guitar/vocals) and Carl Canedy (drums), as well as Freddy Villano (bass/backing vocals).
Here they were captured live on July 15, 2022 at Rose Hall in their hometown Cortland, New York. They played material from their whole career, so there's some songs that I had not heard before. A pretty o.k. live album, but a drum solo and a guitar solo is hardly ever funny to listen to. And it also feels like the sound of the audience is too low, as you can hardly hear them. But the songs are really good anyway, and we get 14 of them here.
This is worth checking out for old fans, but they might not get that many new fans.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: Carnavoyeur
Matador Records - Digital Single
Compared to the first single, "Emotion Sickness", from the new album, "In Times New Roman..." (release date: June 16), this is a useless song. While "Emotion Sickness" was more in the good old QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE tradition, this is something totally different for me. I think of something with David Bowie for example. But hardly his rock period, which I like best. I don't really know how I should describe this, as alternative doesn't really say that much.

ANUBIS: Wake Up With The Wolves
Anubis - Digital Single
From Los Angeles comes the power/thrash metal band ANUBIS. The band features veterans from the local scene, and their recipe for this band is to combine the speed and aggression of thrash metal with the twin guitar attack and soaring vocals of melodic metal. They has released 3 EPs so far. And their latest 2-track EP, "Decreation Day", was really good.
This new single features a guest apperance from guitarist Trey Xavier (GeraGods.Net). And it follows in the same style and quality as the EP, so this is another great song. This is more or less a must for every true fan of powerful metal.

VRID UPP!: Muren
Bollmora Rekords on June 10 - LP, Digital
Swedish guitarist Danne Lagerstedt has played with bands like EASY ACTION, The PLAYMATES, PELLE ALMGREN & WOW LIKSOM, BLASTING FONDAS and GLORIOUS BANKROBBERS. VRID UPP! is his own band, where he take a different direction.
The band released a single in 2018, with a completely different line-up. Then it was more punk, but now it's more like some kind of singer/songwriter pop/rock in Swedish. The record label compare it with Swedish artists like Olle Ljungström, Lars Demian and Markus Krunegård, as well as bands like FLORENCE VALENTINE, DUNDERTÅGET and PERSSONS PACK. In other words catchy and melodic stuff, that probably won't make neither a hard rocker or a punk rocker happy (unless you're open for other music then). It actually reminds me of something that a man I know could have bought cheap at a second hand store just because he liked the cover (funny man).
But even though it might not completely fit in here, they have a few good songs on this album. So if you think kind rock in Swedish could be something that you might like, then give this band a try.
SHAKRA: Invincible
AFM Records on June 9 - CD, LP
SHAKRA is a Swizz hard rock/heavy metal band, formed in the late 90s. Now they return with a new studio album, which gives us mainly good old hard rock and heavy metal. They might not be doing anything unique, but it tastes good to me anyway. So this could be worth checking out of course, but I just don't know what else I should say about this.

KICKHUNTER: Now Or Never
Metalapolis Records on June 9 - LP, CD
KICKHUNTER formed in 2000, and are based in Hamburg, Germany. After a 9-year hiatus they are now back with their fifth album, which features a guest performance by founding member and HELLOWEEN bass player Markus Großkopf.
This is like a rock n roll party with NAZARETH, STATUS QUO and The QUIREBOYS. There's also some Southern rock as well. It's raw and powerful, yet very catchy. The kind of hard rock n roll that you should not say no to.
Yes, "Now Or Never" is full of excellent songs, so everybody should check this out.

IMPERISHABLE: Come, Sweet Death
Hammerheart Records on June 9 - CD, LP
If you want fast classic HM-2 death metal from Sweden, then this is a band for you. These gentlemen are doing everything right here, and this is a brilliant album.
The members of this band have been or are involved with acts like VAMPIRE, PORTRAIT, NOMINON and DR. LIVING DEAD! IMPERISHABLE take much inspiration from the Stockholm scene, and especially DISMEMBER. But they don't focus on just 1 era of DISMEMBER, but all. So we get both aggression and melody here.
"Come, Sweet Death" is their debut album, but this is a band that I hope to hear more from in the future.

CARRY THE TORCH: Delusion
Black Lion Records on June 9 - CD, Digital
CARRY THE TORCH is a Swedish death/thrash quartet, which started as a 2-man project in late 2016. They became a full band in 2018, and released their first album, "Obsession", in July 2019. Now they are ready to release their second album, "Delusion".
The first track is almost melodic death metal, while most of the other songs are more raw and hard, even though there's still some melody. They have found a good recipe on how to do this, and it's not bad at all. You should give them a try.

BOYS FROM HEAVEN: The Descendant
Target Records on June 9 - LP, CD, Digital
This Danish band play typical AOR from the 80s, with elements of pop. So yes, it's soft and melodic, but yet pretty catchy somehow. Not bad at all, but actually not that much else to say either. But if you like legends like TOTO, JOURNEY, BOSTON and CHICAGO, then you probably like BOYS FROM HEAVEN too. So give these boys a try.
The album was produced, mixed and mastered by Erik Mårtensson (ECLIPSE, AMMUNITION, NORDIC UNION etc).

AVARICE: Avarice
UPRISING! Records on June 9 - LP, Digital
This is the debut album from this Danish melodic death/thrash metal band. All 10 tracks are themed around the antiquity's mythological tales of punishment and extreme greed. They deliver a old-school death/thrash sound from the 2000s, even though they add a new touch too. It's still raw, brutal and intense.
This is a really good album. Excellent songs all the way. You should absolutely check this out!

CROSSFADE: Innocent Days
Fenix Music on June 9 - CD, LP, Digital
AOR and West Coast rock can be good. But when it's as soft as this, then it's just silly and stupid. It almost sounds like music for children actually. Like something from a Disney movie or something like that. Too bad as we can find Swedish vocalist Göran Edman (Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum, KHARMA, KARMAKANIC, X-SAVIOUR, TALISMAN, SWEDISH EROTICA, MÅRRAN etc) behind the microphone on this album. It should have been good just because of him, but this just isn't my thing.
This is the 4th album from this Swedish band. And if you like classic AOR and soft rock in general, then I guess that this could be something for you.

BURIAL HORDES: Ruins
Transcending Obscurity Records on June 9 - CD, Digital
After 5 years, Greek band BURIAL HORDES return with a new album filled with blackened death metal. There's equal parts of chaos and atmosphere they say. It's mainly a brutal and extreme experience, but still music and not just noise. This is actually good stuff, and absolutely listenable. I would guess that this will fit perfect for both black and death metallers.
BURIAL HORDES have been active since 2001, and this seems to be their fifth full-length album. They have also released some demos, EPs, compilations and split releases through the years. So if you like this album, then you have some more to check out as well.

REBELLION: X - Live In Iberia
Massacre Records - CD, 2LP, Digital
This heavy/power metal band have been playing for 20 years. So now they thought it was finally time for a live album. It also happens to be their 10th full-length album.
The whole thing was recorded at Paberse Club in Valencia, Spain on May 15, 2022. And it sounds like it was a damn good show, and that both band and audience were on fire.
I had not heard the band before, but with this album they show me that they have lots of really great songs that most fans of heavy and power metal should like. You should absolutely give this a try.

PREDATORY VOID: Seven Keys To The Discomfort Of Being
Century Media - CD, LP
Belgian guitarist Lennart Bossu (AMENRA, OATHBREAKER, LIVING GATE) started writing and home-recording the song ideas that would lay the foundation for PREDATORY VOID as a means to stay sane and occupied during the pandemic when playing live was not possible. But the straightforward dark and heavy material didn't quite fit his other band, AMENRA. So he contacted some other local musicians: vocalist and tattoo artist Lina R. (CROSS BRINGER), bassist Tim De Gieter (AMENRA, DOODSESKADER, MUCH LUV STUDIO), guitarist Thijs De Cloedt (COBRA THE IMPALER, ex-ABORTED) and drummer Vincent Verstrepen (CARNATION).
Musical inspiration comes from many different directions, from shoegaze and doom to hardcore, black and death metal, and then some. Sometimes it's heavy, sometimes it's extreme, sometimes atmospheric. But if I should make it easy for myself and put this band in a genre, then it would be extreme metal/sludge or something like that. They have obviously found their own sound anyway, so it's hard for me to explain exactly what they really sounds like.

DANKO JONES: Good Time
AFM Records - Digital Single

As you might know already, DANKO JONES will release a new album, "Electric Sounds", on September 15. And here's another single while we wait for that. And it looks like they have made a hot album, because just like the last single, "Guess Who's Back", this is another great song in the good old DANKO JONES style. So old fans of this Canadian trio should not be dissapointed.

BLINDSTONE: Waste Your Time
Mighty Music - Digital Single
BLINDSTONE is a Danish power trio, who has existed for more than 2 decades. "Waste Your Time" is the first single from their forthcoming album, "Scars To Remember". And it's described as "a heavy, Texas-boogie-inspired track, with a groovy breakdown, and a spectacular guitar solo". It's said to be one of the bluesier tracks from the album. It sounds good and you should give it a try.

RATT: The Atlantic Years 1984-1990
BMG on June 9 - LP Box Set, CD Box Set
Here we have a box with 5 albums by American hard rockers RATT. All of them sold gold, platinum or multi-platinum. And all these albums featured the classic line-up of Stephen Pearcy (vocals), Warren DeMartini (guitars), Robbin Crosby (guitars), Juan Croucier (bass/vocals), and Bobby Blotzer (drums).
Already on the first album here, "Out Of The Cellar", they show us that they had a strong material. But then came albums like "Invasion Of Your Privacy" and "Dancing Undercover", who had even stronger songs than the debut. And albums like "Reach For The Sky" and "Detonator" are hardly any weaker.
I'm not going to analyze each album here, because it's more or less the same kind of hard rock on all of them, even though the last album is more melodic. High quality all the way through though.
In 1991, they released the single "Nobody Rides For Free" from the hit film Point Break, starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, which is exclusive to the LP box.

STRUCTURAL: And The Earth Has Rested
ViciSolum Records - Digital Single
This song is taken from STRUCTURAL's upcoming album, "Decrowned", which will be released on June 23. And this is a hard and heavy song, but also technical and melodic. Something for fans of melodic death metal. And I really recomend you to check out this band, because they are really good.
Not much else to add there..

The SOLAR LODGE: Tusen Bitar
Beat Butchers - Digital Single
After a long hiatus, Swedish band The SOLAR LODGE entered the studio to record 2 new songs. The first song, "Elden", was released in October last year. And now the second song, "Tusen Bitar", is here as well.
Just like last time it's dark and heavy, yet melodic, dark rock in Swedish that we get. But even though it sounds dark, there's also hope somehow.
Well, it sounds really good. I think that fans of post punk, goth and dark rock could like this.

RÅTTANSON: Fighting The Good Fight
Råttanson - Digital Single
Here's another cool rock song with Swedish band RÅTTANSON. It sounds like rock n roll/power pop from the 60s this time. I think of a band like ROLLING STONES for example. So if you like stuff from the 60s, then I can really recomend you to check out this song. And they have more good stuff by the way.
They will soon release a new EP, which will be interesting to hear.

The main purpose behind the release of this song is to help ANAT - ONLUS (National Association of Ataxia–Telangiectasia). Any income linked to the proceeds of streaming and sales of the song will be entirely donated to ANAT Association.
This is a slow and laidback rock song, that makes me think of the 90s, and something softer with PEARL JAM for example. So if you like alternative rock from that era, then this could be of interest for you.
Not much else to say about this..

KSMB: Vintern 79
Wild Kingdom - Digital Single

This song is taken from the new album "Bröderna Bengtssons Hatt & Mössfabrik", which is out now. And on that album they make their own versions of several songs by English and American bands, mainly from the late 70s/early 80s, but in Swedish. And they surprised me by being more punk rock this time, which I really like.
Now I'm not sure who made the original version of this song, and it might be among the songs in the middle of the album, which were less good compared to the beginning and the end. But I guess it's not such a bad song anyway. It works somehow. This song is more rock than punk rock though.

FEAROUT is a punk/metal band based in Helsinki, Finland. They released their debut album, "Bleedthrough" in 2021. This new EP expand the band's repertoire, and is closer to punk rock. But they still combines their rough-edged metal rock with stoner influences as well.
They got the right attitude in their songs here. It's really rocking. And yes, there's lots of punk in their sound, which they blend perfectly with some metal as well. Yet it's not extreme, but actually quite catchy. The whole album is really good, and you should really give this a try.
