WINGS OF STEEL: Winds Of Time
RFL Music Entertainment - CD, LP
This reminds me of the hard rock and heavy metal of the 80s, which is something that I really like. There's high notes and powerful vocals, and this dude can really sing. They also have fantastic songs on this album, so it's a very strong material that they have here. The only weaker song here is the heavier track "Lights Go Out". But otherwise just great song after great song.
They begin with a song that's 10:40 minutes long. After that the songs are between 2:47 to 6:37 minutes, before they end with another long song, which is 8:21 minutes. They have the power and the epic from legends like HELLOWEEN, QUEENSRŸCHE, DIO and IRON MAIDEN, but also the melodic from a band like DOKKEN. And if that sounds exiting to you, then you really have to check this out.
WINGS OF STEEL is a band from Los Angeles, formed in 2019. This is their second studio album, and it's available from the band's own website in USA, and via High Roller Records in Europe. They has also released a EP and a live album.

The TEMPILSTIKS: Over And Over
The Tempilstiks - Digital Single
The TEMPILSTIKS is a rock band based in Aberdeen, Scotland. This is their debut single, so now you have the chance to be among the first to discover them.
These 4 guys feel that they are free to blend whatever they want to - rock, reggae, metal and punk. As long as it's loud, heavy, atmospheric and a little unhinged, anything goes. They say that "Every track is an experiment in emotion, chaos, and connection". I would say that this song is alternative rock in the heavier league. So if you like that then this might be worth a try. I think I need to hear more before I can tell if they are any good though.
The band has recorded a EP, which will be released in the coming months.

The SOLAR LODGE: Söder
Beat Butchers - Digital Single
Swedish band The SOLAR LODGE have made a messy power pop song with a touch of post-punk, that have influences of legendary bands like BUZZCOCKS, PIXIES and The STOOGES. It's catchy and melodic and in Swedish. The song features saxophone played by Mats Bäcker (who is also a photographer).
The post-punk influences are mainly in the verse, while the chorus is more catchy and melodic. A very good song anyway, and absolutely worth listening to.

SERPICO: Dressed In Flesh
Golden Robot Records - Digital Album
Finnish band SERPICO have been active for 20 years now and released a few albums already (not that many for being active for so many yeras though). They play hard rock in the old tradition, and it sounds really good.
"Dressed In Flesh" is said to be the band's toughest and most ambitious work yet, pushing the limits of songwriting, performance, and production. It's raw rock with energy, yet catchy and melodic. There's no modern stuff here, like drum samples or auto tune, just true and honest analog rock power. This is an album with no weak links, and I really recomend you to check it out.
It's a little funny that one of the members recomend you to listen to the album on vinyl when it just seems to be available in the digital world. Somebody should release this on vinyl though, no doubt about that.

The MENDOZAZ: An American Werewolf In London, Ontario
Cartridge Heart - Digital Single
This is the second preview of the upcoming 8-track EP, "The Completely Fictional History of This Great Nation of Canada", landing November 3. And what we get is a horror-fueled tale of cross-border romance and moonlit mayhem. The music is catchy and melodic punk rock ready for pogo dancing.
If you miss the happy 90s, then this is something for you.
The MENDOZAZ is a trio from Toronto, Canada, formed in 2017.

MÄRVEL: A Beautiful Corpse
Leather Lake - Digital Single

This is a Halloween anthem by Swedish high energy rockers MÄRVEL, and it's taken from their upcoming album, "Brain Drain Diaries". In this song they combine blood, glam and riffs with catchy melodies. It sounds just like it should, so this is absolutely a hit. With this song they prove for us all that they are just as good as some other Swedish rock bands, and that they should be just as popular as them. Very promising for the new album I must say.
These masked rockers hailing from Linköping, Sweden. They have been active for many years now and released lots of stuff through the years.

BIOHAZARD: Divided We Fall
BLKIIBLK - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
Brooklyn hardcore legends BIOHAZARD formed in the late 1980s. They were one of the first bands to seamlessly blend hardcore, heavy metal, punk, and hip hop into an intoxicating genre all their own. This is the first new album in over a decade, and on this album they have reunited the original lineup, and it's said to capture the band at their most raw, relentless, and unifying. The album blends the group's unmistakable fusion of hardcore, metal, and streetwise groove. It's powerful and heavy, but I would say that it's almost catchy as well somehow. There's also intensity and aggression. So I would say that this is a hardcore album with all the ingredients that you can expect from an album in that genre.
We get 11 tracks and it all sounds very good.

DWELLING BELOW: Wearisome Guardians
Transcending Obscurity Records on Oct. 31 - CD, Digital
Death/doom metal band DWELLING BELOW is a dark, twisted and dissonant interpretation of the 2 closely connected styles. There's not much hope here, and it's just irritating to listen to as it's very monotonous and boring to me. This is just heavy and brutal, and doesn't give me anything at all. And I don't have much else to say about this, but a very short review is also a review.

EMPIRE DROWNS: Endless Nights
Mighty Music on Oct. 31 - LP, CD, Digital
Heavy, harsh, melodic and atmospheric is probably the best way to describe this Danish band's sound. We talk about melodic doom/death metal here, with former and current members from WITHERING SURFACE, URKRAFT and SATURNUS. And with this album they challenge the boundaries of the genre, drawing from the desolate beauty of Scandinavian winters and the raw intensity of East African landscapes. It's melodic but yet crushing you could say.
Although they challenge the genre, they also pay homage to titans like PARADISE LOST, MY DYING BRIDE, KATATONIA and ANATHEMA. So if you like that kind of stuff, then you should be interested in EMPIRE DROWNS as well, because this is absolutely not bad at all.

Germán Pascual: A New Beginning (reissue) / Beyond Our Comprehension
Roxx Records on Oct. 31 - LP, CD / LP, CD
"A New Beginning" is vocalist Germán Pascual's (DIVINEFIRE, NARNIA, MIND'S EYE) solo debut album, which was originally released in 2012. Back when it was released, many considered it as a follow up to NARNIA's 2009 album "Course Of A Generation". And sure, this is something similar to that. It's a melodic metal album with blistering guitar riffs, gritty melodies, and big hooks. The songs are all very good, so it's a very strong album. In other words absolutely worth checking out for fans of melodic hard rock and metal.
The album also featured performances of other well known musicians, like Carl-Johan "CJ" Grimmark (NARNIA, FIRES OF BABYLON, Rob Rock) and bassists Per Schelander (PAIN OF SALVATION, ROYAL HUNT) and Raphael Dafras (ALMAH, SEVEN HORIZONS). This is the first time that the album will be re-issued, and the first time it will be released on both vinyl and Jewel Case CD. There's also an exclusive bonus track on this new edition.
"Beyond Our Comprehension" is a brand new album from Mr. Pascual. It took some years, but now the second solo album is ready to be released. And it picks up right where he left off, so this album is more of what you got on the first album. We talk about another great album with lots of good songs. But 1 thing to complain about is that we get "Perfect Harmony" 3 times in different languages (English, Portugese and Spanish). It would have been more fun with 2 more songs instead. That's on the other hand all I can complain about as the rest is just as it should.

ORM: Guld
Indisciplinarian on Oct. 31 - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
Danish black metallers ORM alternate fast and slow parts with ease. The songs are pretty long, 6 to as much as 13 minutes, so there's just 5 tracks here. All songs are in Danish, and this is their 4th album.
It's said that it's more direct and intense this time, and that the songs are shorter and more concise compositions. I wonder how long the songs used to be on their previous albums then? Anyway.. ORM add a epic and progressive approach to their black metal sound, which makes them interesting to listen to. No part seems to last for too long. It's mainly riff-driven and aggressive, but there's also melodic and atmospheric elements here and there.
The band formed in 2015, and released their self-titled debut album in 2017.

SARAYASIGN: Shadows Of The Dying Light
Black Lodge Records on Oct. 31 - CD, 2LP, Digital
SARAYASIGN is a Swedish band, formed in 2020. Their debut album, "Throne Of Gold", was released in 2022, and their second album, "The Lion's Road", in 2023. A funny thing is that each of their albums have been released on a new label - first it was Melodic Passion Records, then Frontiers Music S.r.l, and now it's Black Lodge Records.
When this band is playing, cinematic rock meets melodic metal, you could say. It's a powerful fusion of orchestral grandeur, modern hard rock, and melodic metal - delivering epic soundscapes rich with emotion, atmosphere, and intensity. They also focus a lot on storytelling, and their albums follow a concept saga that continues on the next album. Every track stands strong on its own, which makes them a excellent band. I have liked their previous albums, and this new album is just as good as the 2 previous.
If you're a fan of melodic metal and hard rock, then you just can't miss this great band. This is simply a must to check out!

STARLIGHT RITUAL: Rogue Angels
High Roller Records on Oct. 31 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
STARLIGHT RITUAL was born in Montréal, Québec sometime in 2013. The original idea was to start a doom/psychedelic project, and they began to write some instrumental heavy/prog songs. They has so far released 2 EPs and 1 full-length album.
Now the trio is getting ready to release their second full-length. And their sound has really changed through the years. They soon started leaning into a more classic heavy metal sound, and after that it sounded more like traditional heavy metal with epic flair, channeling the likes of MANOWAR and RUNNING WILD, as well as older influences like THIN LIZZY and RAINBOW. And they continue with that sound on this new album, which sounds great. And although they're inspired by the mentioned bands and more, it doesn't sound like a exact copy of any other band.

ARCHAIC THORN: Malicious Spears
High Roller Records on Oct. 31 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
ARCHAIC THORN have been active in the German death metal underground since 2010, evolving steadily from their early demo "Hydra Throats" (2013) through the EP "In Desolate Magnificence" (2015) to their debut album "Eradication" (2020), all without losing their original ferocity. It's said that anyone who appreciates the old school sound of bands like DEGIAL, NECROVORE or REPUGNANT will also love this second album from ARCHAIC THORN.
Like so many other death bands nowadays, they begin heavy. Really heavy. But after 1 and a half minute they speed it up, and the death party begins with a track that's 7 minutes long. Most of the other songs are 4-5 minutes, but the 2 last are 6:27-6:41 minutes. It's raw and intense just like it should be, but not extremely brutal. These guys are skilled musicians and the songs are good, but unfotunately not much else according to me. I can't remember anything of what I just heard when the album is over (but that might just be a problem for me).

AQUILLA: Sentinels Of New Dawn
High Roller Records on Oct. 31 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
AQUILLA are said to be a promising new band from Poland, mixing elements of the NWOBHM with traditional speed metal. The first incarnation of the band was formed in Warsaw in 2015, and they are very much inspired by movies such as "2001: Space Odyssey", "Dune", "Alien", "Blade Runner" and "Interstellar". Therfor their music is called space metal. After a few singles and EPs, they released their debut album, "Mankind's Odyssey", in 2022. And now they return with another album, the first on High Roller Records.
Now I don't think I have heard the debut, but this sounds very professional. We get 10 really strong songs, that just as well could have been made by a more famous band. I can only recomend you to check this out, because this is a damn good album.

UPCHUCK: I'm Nice Now
Domino Recording Co - LP, CD, Digital
From Atlanta comes a punk band called UPCHUCK, and this is their third LP.
These guys have a good mixture of songs. Some are punk rock, some are more melodic, and some are raw and intense. So there's both anger and reflections you could say. Most of them are in English and sung by a woman, but there's also a couple in what I think is Spanish, which are sung by one of the male members. And that gives even more variety.
This is mainly a good album as the less interesting moments are very few here. And I don't really know what else I should say..

THRICE: Horizons/West
Epitaph Records - LP, CD, Digital
Orange County's THRICE farted out these lullabies for adults in the beginning of October. And as I call it lullabies, there's not much action here.
This band mix post-rock, post-hardcore, and alternative rock. This is their 12th album, where they wander around restlessly and searching without really getting anywhere. It's a modern rock album without meaning according to me, and I don't have much else to add as this wasn't really my thing.

STILLBIRTH: Survival Protocol
Reigning Phoenix Music on Oct. 31 - LP, CD, Digital
STILLBIRTH are described as a German brutal-surf-death-party metal band. I would say that they combine heavy and bloodthirsty riffs with guttural vocals. Brutal and death there is, but I can't hear any surf or party vibes here. This is a slamming death metal force, who also blend in some grindcore and deathcore to their brew. And now you might get a picture of how this sounds. It's mainly intense and insane, but yet listenable. I would not say that they have made a masterpiece though.
The band formed in 1999 and has released a few records since then. There was a short hiatus from 2003 to 2005, and in 2021 bassist and engineer Dominik "Pumpa" Koenig passed away. But his legacy lives on in the band's music, and they have now come to their 9th full-length album.

MYSTIC CIRCLE: Hexenbrand 1486
ROAR on Oct. 31 - CD, LP, Digital
German black metal duo MYSTIC CIRCLE return with a new album. This band released a few albums back in the 90s, but in 2021 the 2 members, A. Blackwar (drums, guitars, keyboards) and Beelzebub (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards), reunited. "Hexenbrand 1486" seems to be their 10th record.
This band blend old school death and black metal with traditional heavy metal of the 80s and horror soundtracks. The new album is largely about the "Malleus Maleficarum", the hammer of witches, which was written in Speyer, Germany in the year 1486, and this time they also add dark synth wave passages in appropriate places. We can also hear 2 female singers on this album: Sarah Jezebel Deva (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, The KOVENANT) and Karo Hafke (UMBRA ET IMAGO, GIANTS CAUSAWAY).
Well, this is a intense and aggressive experience. Maybe not the best cure for a bad hangover, but we all have different taste.

MEZZROW: In Shadows Deep
ROAR - Digital Single
Swedish thrashers MEZZROW deliver another crushing single. And this time it's a hard and really heavy piece. It's actually the heaviest song from the upcoming album, "Embrace The Awakening", which will be released on November 14. And it's about Jack The Ripper, from the first person perspective.
Well, they deliver another damn good song, so you check this out. I think that new album will be very interesting to hear. No doubt about that at all.

JOYCE MANOR: Well, Whatever It Was
Epitaph Records - Digital Single
JOYCE MANOR announce that they will release a new album, "I Used To Go To This Bar", on January 30, 2026. The lead single is "Well, Whatever It Was", which is said to be one of the most Southern California sounding songs ever recorded. They talk about JANE'S ADDICTION in the verses, and BEACH BOYS and WEEZER in the chorus, as well as RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS in the outro. I guess that we can call this rock that is catchy and melodic. I think of the sound from the late 90s early 2000s, so possibly alternative rock then. Pretty o.k. actually.

JEET KUNE DO: First Strike
King2Music Records - Digital Album
Swedish band JEET KUNE was formed in 2021 by 4 experienced musicians, who have played in bands like ELECTRIC EARTH, MISS WILLIS, GOOSEFLESH, KAPTEN KERMIT and The HELICOPTERS. It began as a cover band, but soon turned in to something more when they began to write their own original material.
Their music is heavy and groovy 70s rock. It's often very catchy, which gives it a party vibe, and that makes it easy to like what they do. So yes, this is good stuff. "Down Down" have a THIN LIZZY vibe, while a song like "U Got It" makes me think of early KISS. Some of these songs makes me think of a other band (possibly from Sweden too), but I'm not really sure of the name.
Fans of heavy rock and hard rock from the 70s should absolutely give these guys a try.

IL SEGNO DEL COMANDO: Sublimazione - Live
Il Segono del Comando/Nadir Music - CD, Digital
This live album was recorded at Spazio Webo in Pesaro, Italy on January 31, 2025. But there's also some bonus tracks recorded in the Netherlands in October 2022. And with this album the Italian prog rockers celebrate their 30th anniversary.
Their music is a blend of jazz, rock, prog and dark cinematic influences. I would guess that they take a lot of inspiration from old Italian prog bands, because it sounds mainly old. This is actually not so bad. They seems to deliver with passion and are of course very skilled musicians. So yes, this could be worth a try.

The HALOPHONES: Noises! Noises! Noises!
Secret Entertainment - CD, Digital
O.k., this was a little dissapointment that doesn't really live up to the title. Too many songs here are simply too kind, some kind of indie/alternative rock instead of the garage rock that I want to hear. But not all, so it's not totally hopeless anyway as there's at least a few tracks with more action. So sometimes they actually succeed to be as wild as I want them to be, and then it's much better. Unfortuantely the sleeping pills are more than the party anthems, so I'm still dissapointed.
Well, you can't always get what you want as ROLLING STONES use to sing.

DEATHWINDS: ...Towards Doom...
Sentient Ruin - LP, Digital
After over a decade the debut album by Vancouver's bestial black metal punks DEATHWINDS has finally been released. It was first released on CD and cassette by Headsplit Records earlier this year, but is now also available on vinyl and digital via Sentient Ruin.
On this album they invoke the legend of bands like HELLHAMMER, CELTIC FROST, DISCHARGE, DOOM, BLACK WITCHERY and BLASPHEMY to summon an apocalyptic twilight of destruction. This is raw war punk mixed with the intensity of early and primitive black metal. So you could say that they are the soundtrack to a war machine. It's fast and intense, and far away from nice and polished. Most songs are just a few minutes, but a couple of them are 5-6 minutes.
Well, I like what I hear.

DEAD BEES IN BOURBON: Crystals
Echozone - CD
This is a band from the Aachen area in Germany, who moves in the post-punk and indie rock genres with a touch of gothic rock. "Crystals" is their debut album, where drums, guitar and bass is combined with electronic soundscapes and charismatic female vocals. They have created their own dark, yet catchy sound, where the melancholy play together with melodies. They are playful and experimental, which gives us a wide range of influences and a varied material. That means that you can't really say that they play just 1 specific genre, but rather moves freeley in several genres. But yet they have their own sound, so it's not like 3 different bands or something like that.
They have many good songs among these 11 tracks, so if you're into something softer, then I think you should give this album a try.
DEAD BEES IN BOURBON consist of 4 experienced musicians who previously worked in the music genres of metal, gothic, synth pop, industrial, and progressive rock. They have previously released 1 EP in November 2024.

ARCANE TALES: Ancestral War
Broken Bones Promotion & Productions - Digital Album
What we have here is the 8th album from Italian symphonic power metal band ARCANE TALES, a project that became a full band back in 1996, initially under the moniker BLACK RAVENS. But after disbanding in 2002, it transformed into a 1-man band led by founder Luigi Soranno (vocalist and guitarist).
This album begins with a symphonic and majestic intro, that sounds like something from a fantasy movie. And after that the adventure continues, but with vocals then. It's epic and very ambitious stuff, and often very symphonic. But the symphonic never take over, so it's a good balance between the symphonic and the power metal. This could definitely be worth a try if you think you could like that, because this is good stuff for being so ambitious.

DANKO JONES: Diamond In The Rough
RPM - Digital Single

DANKO JONES pay homage to KISS in the video for their latest single, "Diamond In The Rough", which is a song taken from their new album, "Leo Rising", that will arrive on November 21 via Perception, except for Canada where it will be released through Sonic Unyon.
Let's just say that if you have not heard this Canadian power trio before, but would like to know what they sound like, then listen to this song. Beacuse this is so DANKO JONES to me. The song channels the raw, unfiltered energy of 1970s arena rock. It's sweaty and catchy and a perfect party anthem. In other words just the way I want my DANKO JONES.
This track features a guest solo from guitar legend Marty Friedman (MEGADETH, CACOPHONY).

The BOBBY LEES: Napoleon
Epitaph Records - Digital Single
Woodstock, NY quartet The BOBBY LEES has signed with Epitaph Records and released the new single "Napoleon". It's a punk rock song that is raw like garage rock and without any bullshit. Unfortunately it sounds almost like a pop/hip hop song in the beginning, which is not so good. It soon becomes a little better though when they start to rock some more. So in the end it's a o.k. song anyway.
It seems like famous people like Iggy Pop, Keanu Reeves, Flea, Debbie Harry, Jason Momoa, Henry Rollins, Juliette Lewis, and even Tom Cruise are among the band's fans, and many of them have been spotted at their shows.
The band formed in 2017, and has so far released 3 albums.

CHASING DEMONS: Echoes From the Past
Crime Records - CD, LP, Digital
CHASING DEMONS hailing from Sandefjord in Norway. They're a riff-driven, analog power with unmistakable 80s/90s vibes. So it's simply a straight-up tribute to the glory era of classic heavy metal, and bands like JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH etc. "Echoes From The Past", a fitting title, is their debut album. And this my friend is really good stuff. I'm pretty sure that every fan of the good old heavy metal will like this, because they are almost as good as those old bands once was. And I must also mention that they have a powerful vocalist, and he can sing just as good as the legends.
Best song could be "Fighting Fire With Roses", but no song is bad here.

AETERNIA: Into The Golden Halls
Cruz Del Sur Music - CD, LP, Digital
This is the debut album from this German power metal band. They formed in 2020, and released a EP, "The Quest", in 2022.
AETERNIA combines the monumental with the melodic, a little like BLIND GUARDIAN and HELLOWEEN. So we talk about a traditional sound. And when this band gets its claws into you, it's easy to get lost in the music and just forget about everything around you. Because this is a really good album with all the right ingredients that you can expect from an album in the classic metal tradition.
And what else I should say is a mystery, because I seems to get lost in the music too. Absolutely worth checking out anyway.

GRAILKNIGHTS: Forever
Perception - LP, CD, Digital
If I get it right, GRAILKNIGHTS hailing from Germany and formed in 2002, and this is their 7th record. They would probably prefer to be presented as super heroes from Grailham City though. And on this album they take us on a wild ride to their gym, the world of H.P. Lovecraft and a ceremonious party in Asia, and after that the wintery lands of France, just to name a few stops on this 11-act journey. Their mission seems to be to permanently banish Dr. Skull from this world.
The music is melodic and powerful power metal with both classic and contemporary influences. There's both catchy and epic moments, as well as some more emotional moments. I think that most fans of heavy and power metal could like this band, because their songs are absolutely not bad at all.

The SWITCH: No Way Out
Frontiers Music s.r.l. - CD, Digital
This is the debut album from this international project, which features Canadian vocalist Bobby John, twin brothers Tom and James Martin (ex-VEGA, NITRATE) and Swedish bassist Dennis "Butabi" Borg (CRUZH). With this album they will take you back to the melodic "hard" rock sound of the mid-80s. But not just that, as there's also a theme - a movie called "The Switch" (released in 1987 and a big succees they say), and it's about a band that goes on a U.S. tour, and encounters trouble with an underworld mob. In a cruel twist of fate, the band must swap guitars for deadly weapons and end up in the ultimate fight for survival.
The soundtrack to that is just as good as anything else that came out in the mid-80s. The songs are really strong and easy to like. So if you like that kind of stuff, then you should really give these guys a try.

Dave Tinelt: Power Of Discretion
Dave Tinelt on Oct. 25 - Album
It's said that Dave Tinelt has cemented his legacy as one of Australia's most formidable and electrifying front men when it comes to heavy metal. With a voice that blends raw aggression, soaring melodic range, and sheer intensity, Dave has led the charge for some of the country's most respected metal acts, like MORTAL SIN, NEKROFEIST and METREYA for example.
Now, Dave Tinelt embarks on his most personal and powerful journey yet with the release of his debut solo album. And on this album he combines elements of classic hard rock with the heavy-hitting grit of metal. This album spans a diverse range of styles, from brutally heavy riffs to laid-back acoustic passages. So it's an album for all fans of hard rock and metal you could say, but maybe not extreme metallers then.
Although it stands as a primarily solo endeavor, the record features guest appearances by fellow musicians who bring their own flair to the guitar solos.
BANGALORE CHOIR: Rapid Fire Succession - On Target Part II
BraveWords Records on Oct. 24 - Album
American singer David Reece first came to international prominence in the hard rock community when he joined ACCEPT in 1987, replacing the iconic Udo Dirkschneider. After departing ACCEPT in 1990, David wasted no time in forming his own band BANGALORE CHOIR. Their debut album, "On Target", was released in 1992, which wasn't the best timing for a hard rock album as grunge was taking over the music scene. Since then David has fronted bands like BONFIRE, WICKED SENSATION, EZ LIVIN' and IRON ALLIES. But he has always felt there was unfinished business with BANGALORE CHOIR, so he made a new album with the band, titled "Rapid Fire Succession - On Target Part II".
This band play melodic hard rock in the 80s tradition. Their songs might not always have the same hit potential as the classic bands once had, but it's absolutely not bad. Some songs are even a little extra good, like the single "Bullet Train" for example, which is a song that you really should check out.
In general a good album, but a small problem here is that there's as much as 16 tracks on this album, which is way too much at once. When are people going to understand that 8-10 tracks is enough?

greatest Conan tales ever written, effortlessly blending the mystical sounds, colossal riffs and vivid storytelling their fans have come to expect". And the second song is a SAVATAGE cover, "The Dungeons Are Calling".
These songs sounds mainly like epic doom metal to me, and not so much as power metal. The darkness is there though. It's absolutely not bad at all, and they seems to have a few years of experience as it sounds very ambitious. You should absolutely check this out, because this is good stuff.

KILLER HEARTS: Unchained & Bloodstained
Screaming Crow Records - Postponed until Nov. 7! - LP, CD, Digital
KILLER HEARTS hailing from Houston, TX and formed in 2015. They are described as a sleaze rock band that should be of interest for fans of legends like early KISS, NEW YORK DOLLS, DEAD BOYS and possibly even MC5. "Unchained & Bloodstained" is their second full-length album, and to me this sounds more like a raw and dirty rock n roll band that consist of some old punks. The influences comes from both proto-punk and glam rock, as well as some heavy metal and NWOBHM. And they succeed to do something that works out of those influences, because this is rocking. It's loud and noisey, but also catchy enough to make these songs good.
If you like good old 70s rock n roll with some extra energy, and maybe action rock or garage rock, then you should really check out this band.

SCORCHING TOMB: Ossuary
Time To Kill Records on Oct. 24 - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
Canadian death metallers SCORCHING TOMB deliver a new album, which includes ingredients like bone-crushing heaviness and inhuman guttural vocals for example. It's mainly fast and hard, just as you can expect it to be. But there's also some pummeling mosh parts here and there. Luckily they also have the good taste to play really heavy once in a while, so somehow it actually works and doesn't become too much.
The band was born in Montreal in 2018. The goal was to blend old fashioned death metal with modern hardcore. And this was in a city where technical death metal ruled. But they soon found their fans in the underground scene, and especially in the hardcore scene.
Well, the years have not made them any weaker, but possibly stronger instead, because this is a brutal attack.

PARHELYON: From Dark To Light
Metalapolis Records on Oct. 24 - CD
This is the debut album by PARHELYON (which means Sun Dog in English), and their music is described as "a mystical blend of symphonic, bombastic heavy metal featuring ethereal, melodic gothic elements and angelic 'female vocals of light'." The band is led by multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Michael Vetter (BLACK & DAMNED, PUMP, CHINCHILLA) and singer Tanja Hansen. They are supported by a rhythm section that consists of bassist Frank Herold (MYSTOPERA, KRAYENZEIT, SAIDIAN) and drummer Bernd Heining (MYSTOPERA, SKULL & CROSSBONES, DORNENKÖNIG etc), while the orchestral and creative symphonic sounds were contributed by the session musicians Daniel Galmarini and Steve Dittrich.
PARHELYON have a majestic sound and it all sounds very professional. The songs are really good, so this is a strong album that every fan of symphonic metal should check out. I have nothing to complain about anyway, but not that much else to say either.

NARAKA: Born In Darkness
Art Gates Records on Oct. 24 - CD
This is a French groove metal band. "This new offering represents a significant step forward in the band's sonic identity. While staying true to the aggressive and heavy foundations of their previous work, 'Born In Darkness' introduces a stronger presence of melody and melancholic undertones, adding emotional depth and contrast to the record's raw energy. This expanded musical palette showcases a more mature and layered approach, hinting at the direction the band is set to explore in the future", says the press release about this album.
NARAKA was founded in 2019, and their style is described as a mix of modern metal and death metal with symphonic and sometimes even electro touches. The band members are seasoned veterans of the French metal scene.
They begin the album with a piano intro, but guitars and drums join in pretty soon, and also some vocals - Not the best track here. After that it gets harder and heavier though. All ingredients mentioned above are involved here in one way or another, so they have made a modern metal album with variety where hard and heavy parts meets melodic and almost epic parts.

MEMORIES OF OLD: Never Stop Believing
Limb Music on Oct. 24 - CD
MEMORIES OF OLD is a symphonic power metal group from the UK, formed in 2017. After a 5-year hiatus they are now back with a new studio album and a new lineup. The new members are American singer Noah Simmons and British guitarist Wayne Dorman (ex-ONSLAUGHT).
The songs on this album sounds epic and ambitious, which should not come as a surprise as it's symphonic power metal that we talk about here. But they also succeed to make really good songs that are both melodic and powerful. So it's not just epic and ambitious without a meaning. These songs should not make you bored, because they are also adventurous and varied. The quality of this album is really high, and there's absolutely nothing to complain about.

CIVIL DAZE: Once In A Blue Moon
Pride & Joy Music on Oct. 24 - CD, Digital
This is the debut album from this Swedish melodic hard rock band. They are based in Upplands Väsby in the north of Stockholm, where bands like EUROPE, CANDLEMASS, H.E.A.T and UNIVERSE were born once upon a time.
It all started as a solo project of Mikael Danielsson, but that didn't work as he didn't like his own voice. But then he found the right singer in Helena Sommerdahl, and together they brought in their favourite musician friends to make the band complete. So the band might be new, but the members have been playing for years.
This album is filled with big AOR choruses and 70s/80s melodic rock and hard rock. So in other words what we call the good old stuff. And if you like that, then this should be the right thing for you, because the songs are really good.

DROFNOSURA: Ritual Of Split Tongues
Transcending Obscurity Records on Oct. 24 - LP, CD, Digital
What a load of crap this is! And the fact that some songs go on forever (well, 10:22-15:27 minutes at least) hardly makes it any more enjoyable to listen to. Completely pointless!
The label describe this Canadian band's music as "refreshing blackened sludge that's atmospheric, dissonant (!) and emotive as well". They take elements from multiple styles, such as sludge, doom, black, and even post metal, to get their strange and heavy sound. It's said to be of interest for fans of BLUT AUS NORD, DEVENIAL VERDICT, EIBON, AMENRA, LURK, ISIS, PILLAR OF LIGHT and The ANGELIC PROCESS, if any of them are familiar to you? But let's say that if you're a fan of heavy, monotonous and noisey bands that I don't like, then you will probably like this shit.
DROFNOSURA might have succeeded to make the perfect soundtrack for a journey to hell.

The LUNAR EFFECT: Fortune's Always Hiding
Svart Records on Oct. 24 - CD, LP, Digital
The LUNAR EFFECT were formed in London in 2017 by the brothers Jon and Dan Jefford. The band was later completed by vocalist Josh Neuwford, bassist Brett Halsey, and eventually second guitarist Mark Fuller. They have since day 1 created music that feels familiar but yet original. It's a wild mix of grunge-soaked 70s rock, fuzzed-out blues, and melancholic British soul. So a mix of classic rock and heavy rock.
They have previously released 2 albums - "Calm Before The Calm" (2019) and "Sounds of Green & Blue" (2024). This third album is said to be their most ambitious work to date. But I can't really remember if I have heard them before, so I can't compare this with their previous stuff. It sounds really good anyway, there's no doubt about that. And they also have a varied material, which is good too. So, worth checking out.

DISARRAY: The Darkening
Jawbreaker Records on Oct. 24 - MCD, Digital EP
In conjunction with the band's appearance at The Summoning of Darkness Festival in Stockholm, Sweden, DISARRAY will release a new EP, "The Darkening". It's a relentless continuation of raw technical aggression from a young and promising Swedish thrash metal band. This EP is said to show a more mature band, but still steaming with furious anger towards a world gone off the rails. And what we get is 3 brand new songs, a re-recorded version of the title track from their debut album, "Evil Is Reborn", as well as 2 live tracks.
This sounds old school, but with a modern sound. The energy is high, and they do what they do really good. It sounds very tight and professional, and the songs are of a high quality. You should really check this out.

DOLMEN GATE: Echoes Of Ancient Tales
No Remorse Records - CD, LP
DOLMEN GATE is a epic heavy metal band from Lisbon, Portugal, founded in 2021. They are into old school steel like MANOWAR, OMEN and MANILLA ROAD, with a touch of the 70s as well. They released their full-length debut, "Gateways Of Eternity", a year ago, and now return with an album that is said to be even better.
Well, fans of traditional heavy metal with melodic, female vocals have something to look forward to here, because these 8 tracks are really good stuff. It might not sound exactly like the mentioned bands, but yet very familiar.

BONGINATOR: Retrodeath
Testimony Records on Oct. 24 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
This American band is supposed to play death metal they say. But there's too much totally useless crap on this album, some kind of electronic and atmospheric 80s shit (16-bit computer game sounds they call it). The real songs are not much to have either, so I would not recomend you to check this out.
These guys seems to be all into 80s action and horror movies, as well as playing loads of old video games. And the name of the band also tells me that they are into weed (which might explain why they sound like they do?). By using typical 80s synths and not sounding like all other death bands, they have at least found a unique sound in this genre. Too bad that it wasn't so good though.
BONGINATOR hailing from the New England state of Massachusetts and formed in 2021. Their debut EP, "The 1986 Doink City Massacre", was released in 2022, and was followed by their first full-length album, "The Intergalactic Gorebong of Deathpot", in 2023.

BLAZE: Out Through The Door
No Remorse Records on Oct. 24 - CD, LP
BLAZE was founded in the end of 1998 in Osaka, Japan. A 2-song demo, "See The Light", was released in 2001. But it wasn't until 2007 that they released their first, self-titled, album. Then the fans had to wait until January 2014 for a new release, the 6-song EP "The Rock Dinosaur". There have been some lineup changes through the years, which can explain the lack of releases, and it seems like it took 9 years for the latest change.
But now they are back with a new album and a really strong material. It sounds really old school and not modern at all. Just good old hard rock and heavy metal like it was done in the 1970s and 80s. This is an album that you really should check out if you like acts like SCORPIONS, RAINBOW, SAXON, MSG, HEAVY LOAD and HIGH SPIRIT, because I'm pretty sure that you will like BLAZE too.

BERGFRIED: Romantik III
High Roller Records on Oct. 24 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
Following "Romantik I" (2022) and "Romantik II" (2023), Austrian/Hungarian duo BERGFRIED presents "Romantik III", their first album for High Roller Records. The group consists of Erech von Lothringen, who is handling all the instruments, and vocalist Anna de Savoy. On this album Erech get some help though, so he is just playing rythm and lead guitars this time. Fabio Alessandrini (ANNIHILATOR, BONFIRE, ENFORCER) play drums, but I'm not sure who play bass.
The music is melodic heavy metal and hard rock, but with a few musical-like passages inbetween, which makes them a little special. It's a very catchy and accessible album, and does not sound as dark as some of the song titles might seems to be. Sometimes it' melancholic, but most of all melodic. And there's many good songs here, so this could be worth a try for those of you who like melodic heavy metal and hard rock.

CENTINEX: With Guts And Glory
Black Lion Records on Oct. 24 - CD, LP, Digital
Swedish veterans CENTINEX play old school death metal with some death n roll, and they have been doing so since the early 90s. There's a touch of MOTÖRHEAD and d-beat crust punk on this album, as well as some thrash. It's simply raw, fast and filthy. The energy is really high, and there's no dead moments here. 8 tracks straight in your face, and there's nothing to complain about, because this is really good. And as there's just 8 tracks, there's no risk that the album would be too long.
CENTINEX was first active between 1990 to 2006. In 2014 they were back again. "With Guts And Glory" is their 12th studio album, so if you like this then there's more to check out.

DORO: Warriors Of The Sea
Rare Diamonds Productions on Oct. 24 - LP, CD
This special release bridges the gap for DORO's numerous fans waiting for a new studio album. And for the first time in German singer Doro Pesch's over 40-year career, she is releasing an album as Liquid Filled Vinyl - a vinyl record filled with liquid that you can actually drink (Blue Curaçao). It will also be available on CD and as Picture Disc Vinyl.
The album's title track was written by Doro specifically as an anthem for the Metal Queen Metal Cruises, and immediately became an absolute fan favorite at summer festivals worldwide. The remaining 9 tracks are a carefully curated selection by Doro focusing on "Warriors" and "Cruise" themes. All are rarities, so this is a perfect chance to get hold of these songs. Side A features rare studio recordings, while Side B delivers live tracks recorded during DORO's completely sold-out 2024/25 tour.
There's many highlights here, but a couple of them are the 2 first tracks, "Warriors Of The Sea" and the AC/DC cover "Touch Too Much", just to name a few. I would not say that there's any bad tracks here, but just good stuff. So this is definitely worth checking out of course.
DORO are going on a German tour in December.

Seraina Telli: Green
Metalville Records on Oct. 24 - CD, LP, Fan Box
Seraina have more or less made a pop album, and that's just not my thing. A very big dissapointment as she have made some good rock songs through the years. This will not be played here again, because I can't hear 1 single song that I really like. Sad but true.
This is said to be a bold musical evolution for this Swizz artist. Thematically, the album revolves around responsibility - to others, the environment, and oneself. And the album also features more electronic elements than before, so it's clearly a move away from traditional rock arrangements.
But even if I might be dissapointed, I think that many other people could like this, like fans of more kind melodic rock for example.

The GUILT: Dance To The Revolution
Icons Creating Evil Art - Digital Single
This time southern Swedish electro punk duo The GUILT gives us a re-recording of "Dance To The Revolution", originally recorded in 2016. This version is said to be faster, heavier and clearer in its purpose. It's simply harder, but still danceable, with their typical mix of electro, riotgrrrl and a pinch of post-punk. But this almost reminds me of garage rock actually, which is very cool. This is simply a very good song, and you should check it out.
The GUILT have lots of upcoming tour dates around Europe during the coming months, and there will soon be a new album as well.

GRADE 2: Hanging Onto You
Epitaph Records - Digital Single
This sounds like the catchy, melodic and sing-along friendly punk rock bands from the 1990s, which seems to be popular again.
GRADE 2 is a British band who blend the punk energy with heartfelt vulnerability, and this song seems to be inspired by both the heartfelt, emotional intensity of traditional Latin and Mexican love songs, and the classic punk love songs of bands like BUZZCOCKS, The RIFLES, and RAMONES. The result is a song that feels both familiar and new at the same time.
Not bad at all.

ELD VARG: Darkest Waves
Eld Varg - Digital Single
Scottish heavy metal band ELD VARG blend influences from IRON MAIDEN, GRAND MAGUS and AMON AMARTH. The new single "Darkest Waves" is taken from their second album, "Destroyer", which will land on November 14. It's riff-driven, groove-laden, and melodically rich metal, steeped in Norse mythology, epic battles, and tales of triumph. And this song reminds me a little of the Swedish legends HEAVY LOAD actually, but this band have taken that sound up a few levels. It's powerful and good, and absolutely worth a try.

COLD IN BERLIN: The Stranger
Heavy Soundss - Digital Single
London doom/goth rockers COLD IN BERLIN gives us the second single from their new album, "Wounds", which will be available on November 7. As usual this song is spiced with some dark post-punk, but also some krautrock. It begins pretty soft, but becomes a melancholy song with a driving beat. Pretty good, but I expected it to be better actually. This is simply not single material according to me, but will probably fit in very good on the new album anyway.

WICKED SMILE: When Night Falls

The title track is now available as a taste of what you're going to get on that album. It's a up-tempo track with influences from classic acts like DIO, JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, SAVATAGE, DOKKEN, ICON and SKID ROW. So in other words traditional 80s heavy metal the way we all like it and not much to talk about. It sounds good and is worth listening to, so check this out.

DETERIOROT: Awakening
Xtreem Music on Oct. 21 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
U.S. death metal veterans DETERIOROT deliver their 4th full-length album.
The band formed in 1988 already as MORTUARY, and became DETERIOROT in 1989. Their sound merges atmospheric tones reminiscent of early Finnish and UK death metal with hints of Swedish-style brutality, layered over the raw intensity of 1990s NJ/NY death metal. It sounds old school but yet as they have found their own sound. It's raw and dirty, as well as hard and heavy, and they mix heavy and fast songs. In other words just like it should be. Yet I don't really know what else I should say about these 12 tracks. Could be worth a try anyway.

STRIKT: Hur Fan Kunde Vi Stå Ut?
Beat Butchers - LP, Digital
Swedish band STRIKT play punk from the streets in the old Swedish tradition, and all lyrics are in Swedish. But there's also some influences from the British 80s in their music. This is their debut album, where we get 11 tracks about not fitting in, about lies from above and darkness from within. The music might be timeless, but the lyrics are contemporary and very here and now. It's straight and raw without any extra effects, and several choruses to scream along to, which makes it a perfect album for both everyday life and parties.

SISTER: Tanz Der Toten

This is the 4th single from the upcoming album, "The Way We Fall", which will be released on November 21.
Swedish band SISTER play a dark kind of metal, which to me sounds a little alternative, or however I should explain it? Somebody called it "horror punk meets metal". But this song has a touch of industrial metal, which makes it more hard and powerful. It sounds right anyway, and this will probably fit as a glove for the Halloween party (if you do silly stuff like that).

That means more twin guitars and harmonies on this album. Otherwise it seems like power and speed in the old tradition is the main ingredients here, but not without some room for melodies. So we talk about a band who play old school heavy/speed metal. And they are doing it very good, becuase this sounds very good to me.

Paul Lidel's SCREAM THERAPY: Are You Ready?
Perris Records on Oct. 17 - CD
This band's sound is described as "Texas grit soaked in Sunset Strip sleaze". We get 10 tracks of hard rocking, with the raw swagger of early GUNS N' ROSES, high-octane hooks of classic AEROSMITH, and adrenaline fueled power of early VAN HALEN. So you could say that they release a perfect soundtrack to a party back in 1989. Because the energy is often high, and the choruses are catchy and easy to sing along to, just like in the 80s.
The band is led by vocalist/guitarist Paul Lidel (DANGEROUS TOYS, DIRTY LOOKS). He is joined by Lee Young on rhythm guitar/vocals, Paul Betts on bass/vocals, and Frank Kriege on drums.
Well, we get one good song after the other here, so if you're a fan classic American hard rock, then you don't want to miss this album, that's for sure.

As you probably know already, this is the first single from MEGADETH's final studio album, which will be self-titled and released in 2026. I'm not really sure when I heard a new song with this legendary band last time, but this sounds very metal anyway. But I guess you didn't expect anything else. LES RENCARDS: Boîte à Malice
Rogue Records - 7" Single, Digital
Garage rock in French? Cool actually. But the funny thing is that they are from Barcelona, Spain. But the band features international musicians, so I guess that at least 1 of them is from France. And the raw female vocals makes this sound even more cool.
Their sound is rooted in the early primal garage rock and early punk rock, with bands like The SONICS, The STOOGES and RAMONES, so this is really good stuff. I wouldn't say no to some more from this band, and I would guess that they are a really hot live band.

The members are very young, but play a kind of music that sounds very old. Their sound is steeped in vintage fuzz, Farfisa organ swirls, and psychedelic undertones. It sounds very old-school of course, but also melodic.

This Spanish band is said to play metalcore/hardcore, but it's an emotional and melodic kind then, because this is pretty soft for being metalcore and hardcore. And soft is not something that I think of when it comes to hardcore. This really wasn't something for me, and therfor I don't have that much to say about this.
NO DROP FOR US began as MENTAL EFFORT, and released their first demo in 2010. They have since then released 1 album and a few EPs, if I get it right? Since their last EP, "Antesis" (2023), they sing in Spanish.

GRAVERIPPER: From Welkin To Tundra
Wise Blood Records on Oct. 17 - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
Indianapolis thrashers GRAVERIPPER have been the soundtrack for post-apocalyptic extinction since forming in 2019. Since then they established themselves as one of black thrash's most ferocious upcoming bands, they say. They has so far released 1 EP, a split release and 1 full-length album.
Now they return with what is said to be their bleakest and heaviest record yet. This album's chilling atmosphere and dark edge invokes IMMORTAL, CARPATHIAN FOREST and AURA NOIR with MOTÖRHEAD and MIDNIGHT. It's a blackened, cold, and furious assault of black and thrash metal. And with this album they welcome the new members Steven Garcia on bass and Nick James on drums.
GRAVERIPPER attack us with a raw and intense energy, and an aggressive punk attitude on the vocals. They have succeeded to make a varied material, which makes it extra interesting to listen to. This is a really good album, and you should check it out of course.

Manchester thrashers HELLBEARER formed in 2022, and they quickly released their debut album, "For Those About To Bear Hell". Now they will release their second album, "Darker Fates", which features 11 tracks of classic 80s thrash metal. They have all the right ingredients and seems to be good musicians. So what you can expect is a violent fury and lots of energy. That is topped with a material that is strong and powerful. So there's not much to complain about here.
There's just 1 problem for me, and that is that the sound is so low that I have to raise the volume (yes, a very small problem). But if you're a fan of thrash from the 80s, then you have to check this out. Don't forget to play it loud though.

And this is a band that take inspiration from many different places, but old hard rock and progressive rock from the 70s as well as early heavy metal seems to be big influences for them. The sound and production is modern though, so it doesn't really sound like something old, but on the other hand not really like something new either.

SATAN TAKES A HOLIDAY feat. Nicke Andersson: Gettin' Away With Murder
Icons Creating Evil Art - Digital Single
Swedish rock trio SATAN TAKES A HOLIDAY have teamed up with Nicke Andersson (The HELLACOPTERS, IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC, ENTOMBED etc) for an obscure cover. "Gettin' Away With Murder" was originally done by the Australian glam rock band BABY GRANDE, who was active 1975-77.
"With their signature blend of riffs, darkness, punky intensity and heavy grooves, the band breathes new life into this obscure song and transforms it into something raw, magnetic and undeniably their own", as the press release says. On top of that we get a guitar solo from Nicke, and the result is a catchy rock n roll anthem that you probably can dance to. Very good stuff.
This is another song taken from their upcoming covers EP, "Covering Our Tracks", which will be released in 2026.

They deliver a sound inspired by the bands from the 1970s and 80s, with soulful vocals, groovy Hammond duels and a driving rhythm section.
After almost 3 years in the making, the band will be back with their fifth studio album, "High On Fire", on November 21. "World's On Fire" is the first single from the album, and it sounds very promising. I would guess that fans of something like VAN HALEN could be happy to hear this. PERPETUAL RAGE: The Beginning
Perpetual Rage - CD, Digital (I think?)
PERPETUAL RAGE describe themselves as "a versatile heavy metal band from Kuopio, Finland". The roots of their music is in the 1970s and 80s, and especially melodic heavy metal. But they are not limited to just that, but also blend in some hard rock, progressive metal etc. The current lineup has been together since 2023, but the band was founded in the summer of 2009. This is their 4th album.
What they deliver on this album is something that I would describe as more powerful than melodic. And as there's also some other elements in their music, it doesn't sound like all those traditional heavy metal bands. These guys have found their own sound instead.
This sounds good, and once in a while they succeed to have a great chorus as well. But it's not much else than that they have to come up with.

ONE AND A HALF DOG: Nameless Child
One And A Half Dog - Digital Single
Norwegian hard rockers ONE AND HALF DOG deliver a rock ballad. Not really what I expected to hear, but I guess it's not so bad. The song dives into themes of invisibility, loss, and the struggles of children without a voice, they say.
ONE AND A HALF DOG have been releasing singles now and then since 2019.
Well, if you need something softer, then give this a try. Not much else to say..
HEADS FOR THE DEAD: Never Ending Night Of Terror
Pulverised Records on Oct. 10 - CD, LP, Digital
"Never Ending Night Of Terror" is the 4th full-length album from this horror-inspired death metallers. It's said to be an overall more extreme album, in all aspects. And there's an even stronger emphasis on a intense cinematic vibe this time. Multi-instrumentist Jonny Petterson (WOMBBATH) took a lot of inspiration from many "cult" original soundtracks but also NECROPHAGIA. The lyrics were entirely penned by vocalist Ralf Hauber (REVEL IN FLESH) based on the aforementioned movies, but also adding a fictional aspect to them. Completing the lineup since 2022 are Matt Moliti from SENTIENT HORROR on lead guitars and, for the first time, Evan Daniele (also from SENTIENT HORROR, but also DEAD AND DRIPPING) on drums.
Be prepared for monsters, serial killers and nightmares come true, because this is almost like the perfect soundtrack to a horror movie (but I guess the chance that you will hear death metal in a horror movie is pretty small). They have created a really good album anyway, no doubt about that. So every fan of good old death metal should give this a chance, because I'm very sure that you will like what you hear.

PERISHING: Malicious Acropolis Unveiled
Transcending Obscurity Records on Oct. 17 - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
This is really heavy stuff.
PERISHING hailing from Costa Rica and play slow death/doom metal. The band features members from bands like ASTRIFEROUS, MORTUAL, NECROFERUM etc. (in other words totally unknown underground acts that not too many have heard of). They have previously released a demo, "Lutum", but this is their debut album, which is said to be "an extension of their style of playing slow, torturous, dread-filled death/doom metal where every note carries weight and with it deathly implications".
You can hear that these guys are no amateurs, but seems to have a few years of experience. But although it's well done, I think it's not so funny to listen to. But I'm on the other hand pretty sure that if you like it heavy, then you're going to love this. So don't be afraid of giving this a try.

UNDERSAVE: Merged In Abstract Perdition
Transcending Obscurity Records on Oct. 10 - LP, CD, Cassette, Digital
UNDERSAVE is a dark dissonant death metal band from Portugal. They try to carve their own path, and every half a decade or so they release a new album, where they take another huge step ahead from the previous one. And that's exactly what they have done this time too.
They are obviously very talented musicians and ambitious, but is it good? It's actually easy to get a little lost when you listen to this album, as the song structures are a little weird. It's hardly any straight and simple songs that we get from this band, but pretty advanced music. So I would guess that you have to like more progressive death metal if you're going to like this, and you might also have to give it a few chances. But I think most people will dismiss it all as noise.

SWEET: Live At The Marquee (reissue)
Metalville Records on Oct. 10 - CD, LP
"Live At The Marquee" was recorded at London's Marquee Club in February 1986, shortly before the legendary venue closed its doors for good. The lineup at the time consisted of original members Andy Scott (lead guitar) and Mick Tucker (drums), as well as Paul Mario Day (ex-IRON MAIDEN) as lead singer, bassist Mal McNulty (SLADE) and Phil Lanzon (URIAH HEEP) on keyboards. The band presented a heavier sound without losing the energy and appeal of the classic hits and anthems that they performed at this show. The album is said to be a rare gem in SWEET's catalogue. But now it's being re-released, and we also get 2 bonus tracks.
This is a very good live album with most of their classics, so it's absolutely worth buying. The only things I can complain about would be that some songs are a little too long, and who wants to listen to both a guitar solo and a drum solo? But otherwise it's damn good.
Paul Mario Day unfortunately passed away on July 29 this year.

PURPENDICULAR feat. Ian Paice: Banned
Metalville Records on Oct. 10 - CD, LP, Digital
This album is a little weird somehow, and not really what I expected to hear. You simply don't begin an album that slow, unless you want to lose listeners (and you can hear how stupid that sounds). It's probably just the most dedicated fans, who knows what they are going to get, that continue to listen (as well as some poor reviewer). But towards the third number it start to sound like I expected it to, or at least close to it. As a matter of fact it still sounds different somehow, as it doesn't really sound like I remember them (but then it was a few years since I heard them last time). But "You Better Behave" is more like it should be according to me, as it sounds more like DEEP PURPLE with a singer who is doing his best to sound like that band's singer, Ian Gillan. And he is doing that very well. The rest of the material is unfortunately just o.k. or uninteresting.
I would guess that what they have done here is actually their own album, instead of another album that sounds like a new album with DEEP PURPLE. Too bad that the songs are not good enough.

LINX: Annihilation
Metalville Records on Oct. 10 - CD, Digital
LINX hailing from Montreal, Canada, and is seen as an upcoming rock sensation. The band is a duo with singer/guitarist/bassist/keyboardist Zenab Jaber (nicknamed "Zee" and former bass player of The ANTI-QUEENS) and drummer/keyboardist/programmer Frederic Gauthier (simply called "Fred"). They play industrial rock, and their music is a groovy, heavy, moody, poetic, electric and powerful blend, with influences from genres such as metal, prog, rock, industrial, cultural and soundtracks. "Annihilation" is their debut album, which consist of 13 tracks. It sounds modern, and they have a powerful sound and a vocalist with a very good voice and a wide range. It's not extremely industrial, but more catchy and easy listening (in lack of a better description). They have some good stuff among these tracks, so it absolutely works.

Nils Patrik Johansson: War And Peace
Metalville Records on Oct. 10 - CD, LP, Digital
This man could be in trouble as he have done a song about the old king Gustav Vasa, and there's also a short piece of the national anthem in that song. Those 2 things are enough to make some stupid Swedish people call you a nazi. Well, that's their problem, because I think he's just interested in history, because there's more songs on this album about historical battles.
The music sounds o.k. though, but I think he have made better albums than this. It's heavy metal mainly in the old tradtion anyway. And although it's not the exact same thing, I guess that this could be of interest for fans of SABATON (which the stupid people also think are nazis because of their lyrics).
This is the third solo album from Swedish singer Nils Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION'S SHARE, CIVIL WAR, WUTHERING HEIGHTS), where his LION'S SHARE band mate Lars Chriss play guitar and bass, and he has also produced the album. Nils Patrik's son Fredrik play drums, and Saecred Spirit Anuviel play keyboards. Tommy Denander play trumpet on 1 song.

BLUTGOTT: Legions Of Metal
Metalville Records on Oct. 10 - 3CD, Picture Disc LP of the main album
I don't really understand the idea of recording 3 different versions of the same album, because it sounds more or less the same but with different kind of vocals.
It seems like BLUTGOTT live in their own little metal universe, where the band DEBAUCHERY is supposed to be death metal vocals (but sounds more like monster vocals instead), BLOOD GOD play hard rock and heavy metal, and BALGEROTH is doing it in German (no song from them here). A odd concept, but unique at least. They have been around for 20 years, and released 20 albums. Their music is somewhere between giants like JUDAS PRIEST, SLAYER, AC/DC, RAMMSTEIN and BOLT THROWER. The lyrics is about their own dark fantasy world - the world of Blood Gods, which are brutal demonic vampire dragons. And the man behind this is singer/guitarist Thomas Gurrath. But it is a band who also play live.
The first disc could be described as a split between DEBAUCHERY and BLOOD GOD with guest appearances from Tim "Ripper" Owens (KK'S PRIEST, ex- JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, Yngwie Malmsteen) and Michelle Darkness (END OF GREEN). We also get a cover of the JUDAS PRIEST classic "Painkiller", which is not included on the 2 other discs. The second disc sounds like a meeting between AC/DC and ACCEPT at a dirty bar, while the third disc is DEBAUCHERY's version of the album.
Pretty good stuff. But you can of course get tired of it after a few songs, as it's more or less the same AC/DC riffage and vocals in every song. It would have been a better idea to vary the material more and not do 3 different versions of every song, but just use the vocals that fits best for the song instead.

NEPAL DEATH, MORRHÅR and PIPISTRELLA at Wiser's Pub/Viva Nightclub
Concert at Wiser's Pub/Viva Nightclub in Borås, Sweden on October 4, 2025
Psychedelic rockers NEPAL DEATH arranged a release party for their new album, which was released a few weeks ago. And they also invited 2 other bands, which gave us a mix of different kinds of rock music.
First out was the local punk rock/power pop band PIPISTRELLA. They was really good and had many good songs. I would like to hear more, but they didn't seems to have any physical records, so I guess that they are just available for streaming, and that's not really my thing. I guess I have to see them live again some day then.

Next band was MORRHÅR, which I don't think I have heard before. This is a band that I can't just put in 1 genre, because sometimes it was more like progressive rock with long instrumental parts, and sometimes more like southern Swedish rock in Swedish. Sometimes very good, sometimes just o.k., but never really bad anyway.

And last out was NEPAL DEATH then, and I'm glad that I finally went to see them, because that was an interesting experience. Now they also have very good songs for being a psychedelic rock band, and they also have a good live show. This night they even had a guy playing sitar with them, which was the first time ever for the band. I should absolutely go and see them again, and so should you.

It was a nice night and I met many people that I know.

Vick LeCar: It's Time
Vick LeCar - Digital Single
Hard rock guitarist Vick LeCar deliver another single, which is described as "a no-nonsense anthem of urgency, grit, and determination". The track follows his previous singles, "Golden Train" and "Witches Brew", which were both good. It's said to "comes in swinging with a sharper edge - a straight-to-the-point hard rock statement that blends heavy blues riffs, pounding rhythms, and an unmistakable sense of fire". To me it sounds melodic, but it's just as good as his previous singles, so it's still worth checking out.

ÜLTRA RAPTÖR: Fossilized
Fighter Records on Oct. 7 - CD, LP, Cassette, Digital
In late 2015 in Québec City, Canada, 3 guys were discussing ideas for a new band. The beers were flowing and references were made to German speed metal, US power metal, fantasy, sci-fi and comic books. Of those 3 guys, 1 is still in the band, which got the name ÜLTRA RAPTÖR, and they are nowadays 5 members.
ÜLTRA RAPTÖR has previously released 1 EP and 1 album. And the latest album is a heavy/speed metal attack in the good old 80s tradition. The energy is high, and yet it's also melodic and very easy to bang your head to. This album is full of great songs, and if it would have been released in the 80s, then it could have been a classic. Yes, that's how good this is.

OCCULT KENJI: Of Gods And Ancestors
Thalassocracy Records on Oct. 7 - CD, Digital
OCCULT KENJI is a Cypriot progressive metal band, formed as a 1-man project in 2018. They blend mythological storytelling with a wild mix of heavy metal subgenres. They weaves together harsh and clean vocals with atmospheric soundscapes, and the idea is to merge their Mediterranean heritage and metal music. And as it's progressive, the music is both aggressive and emotional, and goes in all directions. But it sounds professional and the songs are not bad, so even if it's a musical adventure it works. I can really recomend all fans of progressive metal to give this a try.
Hugo Ribeiro from MOONSPELL is playing drums on all tracks on this album, and there's also some other guests.

SPARZANZA: From Dust To Darkness
Despotz Records on Oct. 3 - LP, CD, Digital

Swedish metal band SPARZANZA continues to deliver crushing riffs, haunting melodies and infectious choruses. It's hard and heavy, but always with melody. It's not always the safe old thing on this album though, as the band have been experimenting a little and pushed their boundaries in some of the songs. So you could say that at the same time as we get the good old sound, we also get something new and interesting.
They are still a really good band, and this album is really strong, so you should give it a try if a mix of modern hard rock and heavy metal sounds like your thing.
SPARZANZA was formed in Karlstad back in 1996, so they are veterans now. "From Dust To Darkness" is their 9th album.

STILEMA: Pagan Army Unchained
Agoge Records - Digital Single
STILEMA is a band who combines heavy metal and Irish folk music with Italian songwriting and symphonic soundscapes. They are from Rome, Italy, and they have as far as I can understand released 1 EP and 1 full-length album so far. This new single is their first in English.
It sounds majestic and ambitious, but they seems to know what they are doing, and this song is pretty good. There's a violin among the instruments, which use to be torture to me, but it actually works here.
Well, I don't really know what else to say, but give this a try.

CORNERS OF SANCTUARY: Broken Paradise
SODEH Records - Digital Single
U.S. heavy metal band CORNERS OF SANCTUARY gives us a song that is fueled by the spirit of the classic 80s metal and sharpened with a modern edge. It's a mix of melodic shredding and fist-pumping heaviness, but with their own unique sound. As usual it might not sound like a obvious anthem, but it sure ain't bad anyway, so give it a few chances and you might find out that it's not so bad.
CORNERS OF SANCTUARY are veterans now, and have released lots of stuff through the years.
What else I should say is unknown to me..

COLD IN BERLIN: Hangman's Daughter
New Heavy Soundss - Digital Single
COLD IN BERLIN emerged from East London's gothic underground in 2010, and it could actually be something like 10 years since I heard anything with them last time. But now they has released a first single from an upcoming album, titled "Wounds", which will be released on November 7.
This song opens with a hypnotic techno bassline, then quickly gives way to post-punk guitars and vocalist Maya's magnetic storytelling. Their sound balances raw power with haunting beauty. It's dark and melancholy, but I like it. This is definitely not a hit song or an anthem, and yet it's a good song worth checking out for fans of doom, goth and post-punk. Because it seems like they mix all those genres.

BLACK SATELLITE: Aftermath
Black Satellite? - Digital Album?
BLACK SATELLITE is led by frontwoman Larissa Vale. The New York City-based band have been making waves with their signature fusion of industrial grit and metallic edge. Their sound is unapologetically dark, visceral, and uncompromising they say, and is also said to cementing BLACK SATELLITE as one of the most exciting new names in modern rock. This second album is their most ambitious and hard-hitting material to date.
They blend mainly melodic vocals with hard and heavy guitars. So to me this is simply a modern metal album, but with their own twist. Pretty o.k., but not much else to be honest. According to an old man like me, this is not the kind of band who have that many anthems, and I get tired already after half the album because of that. The younger generation might get this though.
But with that said, there',s at least 1 song here that I could call an anthem, and that's "VOID". That's without a doubt the best song on the whole album.

ADAM AND THE HELLCATS: 9 Lives
Adam And The Hellcats? on Oct. 3 - Album
ADAM AND THE HELLCATS consists of 6 people from Bristol, UK. They play a energetic and punky kind of rock n roll, and "9 Lives" is their third album. The band have carved out a fierce reputation on the UK rock circuit, earning their stripes by touring and supporting a host of established acts.
This group have 2 singers, founder Adam Feasey (also guitar) and Cirwen Costa, which provides a good variety as one is male and the other is a female voice. To make their sound even more special, there's also a keytar.
Well, Adam and his cats are really rocking, because the energy is high, in the beginning at least. Those songs are really good and something for those who like high energy rock, punk rock and action rock. But after that there's some harder and heavier songs, and then some softer songs. It doesn't really fit in after such a strong beginning. Luckily it gets a little better again after that, but the high energy from the first songs seems to be gone, which is a little sad of course.

AGARTHA: The Hidden
No Remorse Records on Oct. 3 - MCD, MLP
AGARTHA is a heavy metal band formed in 2019 by multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Berry (guitars and drums) and vocalist Ryan Evans. They were united by a passion for the spirit of classic metal and a vision for pushing its boundaries. With roots in traditional heavy metal, the band draws inspiration from a broad range of styles across the genres vast landscape - from the grandeur of NWOBHM to the raw intensity of underground acts. They simply add a personal approach to songwriting and composition.
In 2020 they released a demo, which was re-released as a 7" vinyl in 2022. And now they will release a new 5-track EP.
This sounds melodic, but damn good. I can absolutely hear the influences from the 80s, but where those other influences went I don't know. So it',s in other words a pretty traditional sound that we get here, but who doesn't like that? They have their own sound though.

SCEPTOR: Wrath Of The Gods
Metalizer Records on Oct. 3 - LP, CD
German heavy metal band SCEPTOR was founded in 2009, and have been through some lineup changes through the years. The band features members from bands like ROXXCALIBUR, ATTACKER, HAMMER KING, and DESTILLERY. Their first single was released in 2010, and it was followed by their debut album, "Take Command!", in 2012. Then the band temporarily disbanded in 2014. However, SCEPTOR's story was far from over. In December 2019, the band was reformed with a completely new lineup, and another album, "Rise To The Light", was released in 2021. Now we have come to their third album, "Wrath Of The Gods", where they introduce their new vocalist Florian Reimann (ex-DESTILLERY).
SCEPTOR have a heavy and powerful sound in the classic tradition. This sounds just as good as any other traditional heavy metal band, and there's lots of them nowadays, so it's a very good album that they have made. You should give it a try, becuase there's not a weak moment here.

GOLDSMITH: Into The Woods
Metalapolis Records on Oct. 3 - CD
GOLDSMITH release their 4th album.
To me this sounds like a modern and fresh heavy metal album, but without being too modern then, if that makes any sense? Now I'm not like everybody else, so it makes sense to me somehow. I would guess that they are aiming for a 90s/early 2000s sound, so it might not be so modern anyway.
The songs are energetic, with a raw and honest sound, as well as thunderous drums and powerful riffs. They move confidently between METALLICA, BLACK SABBATH and GHOST and occasionally adds punk influences to their sound. There',s many good songs here, so it could be worth a try.

ENRAGEMENT: Extinguish All Existence
Transcending Obscurity Records on Oct. 3 - LP, CD, Digital
If you're looking for brutal death metal that goes fast, then I guess ENRAGEMENT is for you. This Finnish band deliver a varied material, and take the effort to approach songs differently each time, which makes them a little special. They are not trying to be unnecessarily technical or flashy. The perfect expression is more important. The title "Abyssal Hellscapes" might give you an idea about what this could sound like. And if that sounds exiting to you, then satisfaction is guaranteed.
Let's put it this way, they are talented musicians and hardly amateurs anyway. Then again, their music may not really be my thing, but that's a completely different matter.
